I have heard there are problems with having female altar servers? Can anyone back this up with catechism, or something official.
Rome has given permission for female altar servers but have left it up to the bishops to decide for their own dioceses – even in dioceses where they are allowed, it still remains up to the individual priest whether he will have female altar servers or not.I have heard there are problems with having female altar servers? Yes this is true…the power to Allow and forbid female altar servers lies in the hands on the bishop. However in dioceses that allow them (all in the USA but Lincoln, NE which has seminarians coming out their ears by the way) the priest can forbid.Rome has given permission for female altar servers but have left it up to the bishops to decide for their own dioceses – even in dioceses where they are allowed, it still remains up to the individual priest whether he will have female altar servers or not.
A lot of problems with females serving are based on personal interpretation and local environments, so they cannot be found in the Church official documents.I have heard there are problems with having female altar servers? Can anyone back this up with catechism, or something official.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I also believe Arlington, VA forbids female altar servers too.Yes this is true…the power to Allow and forbid female altar servers lies in the hands on the bishop. As of last year, the Bishop here lifted the prohibition. There are still many parishes within the diocese that do not have girl servers. The priest still has that option of not allowing girls. He cannot have girls if the Bishop says no, but he is not required to have girls if the Bishop says yes.Correct me if I’m wrong, but I also believe Arlington, VA forbids female altar servers too.
