Where did this title come from, and what does it mean? We are doing voluntary fasting on Ember Wed, Fri, and Sat this week…is Thursday also a day of fasting? I thought feria just meant it wasn’t a feast day.

Feria is Latin for weekday. It means a regular weekday of the season, without any saint’s or feast day occuring.
The ember days occur four times a year, around the time that the physical seasons change. They are traditionally days of fasting, in prayer for vocations and for those who are to be ordained. They were suppressed in the current kalendar, so you are obviously using the 1962 missal.

Yes, I am!
There are 3 ember days this week…and one Feria (tmw). Just wasn’t sure if that meant I still needed to fast.

The Seraphim company, sells A beautiful calender every year. As does the FSSP. These calenders show the current year. but with the 1962 liturgical year, My parish uses this calender. It has A good explanation on the back of the terms used. ie feria,spy wednesday, dbl class, etc.
here is the explanation of “Feria” from the Seraphim calender.
Ferias are those days of the week on which neither A Feast nor A Vigil is celebrated. The Mass of the previous Sunday is offered except when that day has A Mass of its own as in Lent and on the Ember Days.
On Ferias of the 4th class, the Priest has the option of saying A votive Mass (in honor of some Mystery of Our Lord or the Blessed Virgin Mary,in honor of one of the Saints, or for A special intention) Or he may offer A Requiem Mass.
