GROUP’S NATIONAL CHAPLAIN IS IN LEXINGTON THIS WEEK

Lexington Herald Leader
By Frank E. Lockwood

Hoping to show that it is not anti-Christian, Planned Parenthood’s Lexington affiliate is bringing the organization’s national chaplain to speak with area clergy this week. But so far, only a handful of religious leaders have agreed to meet with him.

David Bowman, board chairman of Planned Parenthood of the Bluegrass, said it hasn’t been easy to spread the word about chaplain Ignacio Castuera’s visit.

“Most church organizations would not give me names and e-mail addresses for their clergy,” he said. “There were many organizations, both denominational and ecumenical, that didn’t want to get involved.”

Castuera, a United Methodist minister from the Watts section of Los Angeles and the first Planned Parenthood national chaplain, wasn’t surprised.

“The closer Jesus got to the cross, the smaller the crowds got,” the chaplain said. “This is pretty close to the cross because people have to take derision, ostracism, all that.”

In 2003, the Planned Parenthood Federation of America provided contraception, HIV testing and other services to 2.8 million people and performed 244,628 abortions.

Castuera’s position on abortion: “It’s always a tragedy,” he said. “I don’t think it’s a sin.”

I’m not concerned with Planned Parenthood in the near term. They do not affect my life in any direct way, nor do my children deal with them.

To me, the most advantageous area for Christians to focus is in bringing up their own children to be chaste. That is the most effective weapon against PP and all the abortion clinics.

Fighting them on worldly turf only empowers them. We need to fight a spiritual battle, which is more powerful than anything they have going for them.

I’ve gotten in trouble for mentioning it in the past, but nevertheless it is something we must face – young Catholic women are not statistically much better than others when it comes to promiscuity rates. Each one has a choice, but by and large we are not getting the chastity message through to our kids. Really, if we focus on that, I think we will deal PP a stronger blow than any legal proceedings or political protests. Those tactics don’t work, because the prince of darkness rules the worldly components of humanity, including the political system and financial enterprises.

If we quit feeding customers (our children) to these places, they would have less power. If we don’t, then we are simply trying to remove the splinter in another’s eye and neglecting the glaring deficiencies in our own.

Oh absolutely. I hope I do this job well in my children, I really consider it life or death.

Praise you for speaking truth and not being afraid. If this is true (and I don’t doubt it but we should try to be certain) then we should proclaim the truth boldly. It may be hard to hear but nothing good comes from hiding from it. IMHO it’s a work of the evil one to not proclaim it!

:clapping: The largest religious denomination is LAPSED Catholics, so I don’t doubt we are big business to them.

I fullheartidly agree Alan… Well said, and very true.

I am a father of three myself, and my children are my personnal battle grounds. If I fail in teaching them what is right, I shall fail my mission in life.
