Would it be okay for a fictional story to have a recarnation thing in it? Because it’s fiction im thinking of this fan fiction im making and I know recarnation isn’t real in real life but what about magic and recarnation in fantasy like in movies like lord of the rings ECT? God bless all
You are in my prayers

As long as the story isn’t portraying reincarnation as actually true or as consistent with Catholic doctrine I don’t see a problem with it. Readers should be able to recognize it as fiction and respond accordingly.

Sure, there’s nothing intrinsically wrong with a fictional account of reincarnation (or magic, or any false-to-reality subject). Depending upon the confines you’re working within, you may want to place the whole idea in a subtly Catholic light. Nothing blatant or even referencing Catholicism, but something that gently reinforces Catholic truth in some manner.

No. THAT - would be - very gently - dabbling - in the black arts.

@convertingtocatholic As someone that loves fantasy, I will say that I would not be scandalized if there was reincarnation. In fact the current series I’m reading has some cases of reincarnation and while the reincarnation isn’t the make or break, it adds a bit of depth to an already rich world.

That’s a shame. You are missing out on one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

I’ve been watching “Travelers” on Netflix. It’s a very well done series about a future society which is trying to save the world by sending the consciouisness of volunteers back in time to take over the bodies of people who are about to die of natural or accidental causes.
It’s sort of like reincarnation, but doesn’t seem problematic the way it’s done. It raises a lot of ethical questions and is very interesting. I’m just glad it’s not something that’s really possible.

Exactly! Sadly, reality is starting to catch up with SciFi so it’s hard to think up new plots. Have you seen Altered Carbon?

Some Protestants I know would insist that people who depict magic in books (i.e. Harry Potter) are encouraging demon worship. And that Dungeons & Dragons is a gateway to Satan-worship.

There are Catholics who buy into that notion, too. If you know the difference between fiction and reality, you’re fine. Those who don’t, shouldn’t be reading any type of fiction – if they’d try to copy fake “magic,” they might do the same with a murder mystery!

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with reading or viewing fiction material that depicts magic. But, if that book or movie were to show satanic symbols and demonic rituals for the majority of the time, that’s a different issue
