Is it alright to create novels out of things that really happened? I’m talking Biblical events. Such as making a novel out of what the Bible says about Mary Magdalene, then filling in the gaps with imagination (but nothing against the Church, of course!). I’m curious if the Church says anything about this.

I certainly see nothing wrong with it, though there may be pitfalls, it may also help make Biblical characters who are otherwise just names more real and human to us.

I recently read Sarah by Orson Scott Card which was quite good. It did take some odd turns like making Lot Sarah’s borther-in-law. But there was nothing in it that really contradicted the Bible.

Card has also written two more Biblical novels; Rebekah and Rachel and Leah.

If loving the Book Lamb is wrong, I’m really okay with not being right.
