Regardless of all the rhetoric and argumentation you hear from the Senate, the filibusters of Bush appellate court nominees is all about abortion.

That’s the real objection. Every filibustered nominee is pro-life. Senate democrats, under extreme pressure from the pro-choice lobby, will do anything to prevent pro-life nominees from being placed at the appellate court level or higher.

They are terrified that abortion will no longer be protected by the courts, because they could certainly never win the same degree of abortion on demand in the legislatures.

i can’t resist, filubuster is much hot air about nothing coming out the wrong end.

They want porno protected too. That is where PFAW (the point group fighting these nominations) gets much of its funding. SCOTUS tossed out two laws passed by Congress on the issue. One outlawed computer generated child porn. The other would have made it difficult for those under 18 to access porno on the net. Those are the types of judges PFAW and Schumer want on the court.

filibuster not, that ye be not filibustered

demos should know that

I agree. If abortion is not a right guaranteed under the US constitution, it would go back to being decided by the states in a GASP democratic venue, where, double GASP, it would be submitted to debate and the legislative process and to, possibly, the will of the people. Can’t have that.

Ahh…well, like abortion itself, perhaps the filibuster is a sacred and guaranteed constitutional right…

I disagree. It’s also about prayer in schools, gay marriage, display of the 10 Commandments and display of crosses in public cemeteries. It’s “freedom of religion“ or “freedom from religion” that’s at stake. What it really comes down to is the end of “ternary of the judiciary” and the reestablishment of democracy. This is the most important debate in the last two generations.

I agree. That said, i believe these issues are way down the list; the primary fear is still the loss of abortion “rights”. Abortion is the litmus test for gaining support from many senators on the “wrong”, regardless of their political party.

Mikev is right. While it is true that homosexual “marriage” etc are on the agenda abortion is the issue that really motivates the democrat base. the U.S. Democratic Party is an evil conspiracy of the godless and the apostate and the only thing that keeps it together is the big isssue of abortion. What I have just said may appear extreme at first sight but anyone can see that on reflection support for such a party can only be wrong.

This is not politically correct to point out but if one checks the donors to the DNC, the vast majority of money, (by far) does not come from Christians.

In 2004 the top donors were:

George Soros ---------------------- $27,080,105
Peter Lewis ------------------------ $23,997,220
Stephen Bing ---------------------- $13,952,682
Herbert and Marion Sandler ---- $13,007,959
TOTAL -----------------------------$78,037,966

The GOP has no one, not individuals nor corporations, who donate that much.

In 2002 the largest DNC donors were:

Haim Saban: $12. 3 million
Fred Eychaner, :$7.4 million
Steven Bing: $7.1 million
Steve Kirsch: $3.3 million
Bernard Schwartz:$2.3 million
Jon Corzine: $2.1 million
Melvin Simon:$2 million
Peter Angelos: $1.8 million
John O’Quinn: $1.8 million
Daniel Abraham: $1.4 million
Charles Kuscher:$1.4 million
Carl Lindner:$1.3 million
Donald Sussman:$1.2 million
Robert Johnson:$1.1 million

Slightly more balanced than last year but not much.

Btw…Charles Kushcher probably won’t be giving much more. He is on the way to the Federal pen after hiring a hooker to set up his sister’s husband.

George Soros is not a Christian? Just asking. By the way, he wouldn’t be sponsoring cyber-attacks on Catholic Answers servers, would he?

Sorry, that’s just my paranoia speaking…
