I watched this on Sunday (only 99 cents on pay-per-view) and it is actually pretty good, aside from the fact that they use the Good News Bible for dialog.

If you’ve already seen Zeffierelli’s Jesus of Nazareth which is usually shown during Holy Week, you might want to check out The Gospel of John.
 
I know I’m responding to a very old post, but I just finished watching * The Gospel of John* for a second time. It’s available now on YouTube for free, in HD. Quite good!

The Good News language doesn’t bother me; it’s not a Bible for scholarly work, perhaps, but works well for film. It’s narrated by Christopher Plummer and the actors are mostly Shakespeare stage trained.
***1/2 out of 4 stars from me.
