I don’t know where to start. I have so much to say, and so little of it is relevant to my question. It looks like we may be loosing our third pregnancy in a row. I pray that I am wrong, but being realistic we will likely have a miscarraige in the next week or so. I know during each of the past two our greif has gotten worse each time, and my wife suffered from post-partem depression. If we loose this child, I don’t know how we will handle it; and I know whatever I feel, my wife feels even more. I want to be ready if we need help dealing with this.

Never having seen a councelor, I was curious what kinds of things you look for. More specificaly, any terminology for one with catholic beliefs. I looked in the yellow pages, and there is nothing specifying religion at all. I would think this is an important factor when finding someone to help deal with your problems and grief. We will be in a very weak emotional state, and I don’t want anyone pushing secular views regarding our loss on us (i.e. it was just a mass of cells, not a child). Would our parish maybe have recomendations? Why am I asking you, I should just call them. If I say it out loud right now it will become so much more real. I didn’t realize how hard this is hitting me already until I started typing this.

catholictherapists.com/

Or, call any of the therapists in the directory and ask them flat out if they are Catholic and if they will work with you from the Catholic perspective…they’ll either say yes or no.

I will pray for you and your wife. I’m so sorry you are feeling such anxiety over the pregnancy…with good cause, I know, but still…

Have you visited the Pope Paul VI Institute website for help with your situation? They may be able to help you through this and your next pregnancy.

I am sorry. I too, had 2 miscarriages, one being late term. It is painful.

St. Gianna Molla is a saint of our time, cannonized in May 2004. She is patroness of difficult pregnancies. Please pray for her intercession as I will pray for you also.

catholictherapists.com is a good one. Also check out exceptionalmarriages.com/ - Greg Popcak is a highly skilled marriage and family therapist. If you’re not in his area, the website has some info on tele-counseling I believe. If you have to resort to calling around through the yellow pages, I would just ask what each counselor’s views are on the integration of spirituality and psychology or what role they feel religion plays in someone’s life. You could also point blank ask if they do Christian counseling; that happens frequently at the agency where I’m doing my practicum.

My heart goes out to you!

Good luck with Greg Popcak. I tried twice to contact him (via his website) but got absolutely no reponse. Just wanted to warn you … I hope you have a better experience than I did.

In fact …
If you DO make contact with him and get help, please let us know. I’m sure good telecounseling would interest a fair number of folks here.
