I just wonder what you guys think of the semi-old series firefly. I mean, it seems to have a point, it displays a christian if not Catholic leader under “Sheperd Book” and seems to be predominately christian themed in that it is about helping people, and trying to survive. It shows the shades of gray of life. And the reavers are excellent in showing what sin can do to mankind.

Anyway, just wanted to see what people thought of it.

I love it. Shame they killed it off. I don’t know if I can draw the same parallels you do though! 🙂

well, I was kinda a freak and looked into it more,
There are two main religions in the firefly world, buddhism and Catholic/Christian, it seems that during the trip to the new planets, there was a somewhat reunification of Catholics and Christians.

Anyway, I can see parrallels easily, I try to use contemporary stuff to explain religious ideas, it seems to make it flow easier. It may not have been meant to be used that way, but none the less, it works

I am a Firefly nerd. I have converted six people to Firefly. I love it. Great acting, great plots, very interesting universe, Also, one of the only happy married couples I can think of in television in Zoe and Wash.

And some of the best lines ever.

My days of not takin’ you seriously are certainly comin’ to a middle’.

“Mecry is the mark of a great man. I’m a good man. Well, I’m all right.”

“Time for some thrilling heroics.”

“Dear Diary, Today I was pompous and my sister was crazy.” “Today, we were kidnapped by hill folk never to be seen again. It was the best day ever.”

I love Firefly.

Some of my favorites:

“If wishes were horses, we’d all be eating steak.”
“And we will rule over all this land, and we will call it…‘This Land’.”
“See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like.” (“creepifying” is now part of my permanent vocab)
And of course, my current signature, which had me laughing out loud.

LOVE the show. Wish it hadn’t been pulled off the air, but am glad they gave us a movie.

I love this series–so creative and downright high-larious! 😃

I wish it were still running! 😦

*“What does that make us?”

“Big damn heroes, sir”

“I been working on an idea- why don’t we shoot her first?”

“If you can’t run, you walk. If you can’t walk, you crawl; and if you can’t crawl- well, you find someone to carry you.”

I’m getting my husband a Blue Sun t-shirt for Christmas. :D*

I never caught onto *Firefly *:banghead: until some friends convinced me to see the motion picture Serenity. I look forward to the DVD of the series one of these days (when disposable income allows).

ObFavoriteQuotes: (From the movie, natch)

“This is gonna get interesting”
“Define interesting
“*Oh God, oh God! We’re all going to die, we’re all going to die! *?”

and

“If I’m not back in an hour, you take this ship…and you come rescue me – I don’t wanna be left!”

“Josh Whendon Is My Master Now”,

Firefly is hands down my favorite tv show of all time. Simply a classic. All the characters are compelling, the writing is amazing, the cinematography is wonderful. Lens flares intentionally? Love it. Zoic is an awesome cgi company as well, and worked wonders with Joss’s ideas. Who would have thought of making spaceships be so out of frame, like it was a handheld camera filming it, instead of cgi? Shiny!

One of the things I like the best is the humor and way of speaking. My husband and I have always had a similiar type of humor in speaking to each other, and so we loved the show instantly.

My hubby has the Blue Sun t-shirt, and I have Jayne’s Fighting Elves one (orange one, with the 48 on it). I would wear Zoe’s necklace every day if I could find one like it. And I’d love some of Enarra’s elegant dresses (and the body to be able to wear them!)

You can’t take the sky from me…

What do you mean “reunification of Catholics and Christians”? Do you mean “Catholics and *other *Christians”?

Edwin

Isn’t Zoe’s necklace just a leather thong wrapped twice and tied? It’s cool.

A very special hell. One that’s reserved for child molesters, and people who talk at the theatre.

My wife loves it.

She’s been watching the extras on the DVDs and now thinks it would have done a lot better if

a) the episodes had been shown on TV in the right order

b) the pilot episode that set the scene and explained everything was shown first (as would seem to be normal) rather than last.

Fox showing the episodes out of order was very detrimental to the general understanding of the show. Athough “The Train Job” was a great epi, it wasn’t a great intro/pilot. This thread makes me want to break out the DVD’s for a Firefly marathon. Plus, some of the best quotes ever!

Mal: “We’re not gonna die. We can’t die, Bendis. You know why? Because we are so…very…pretty. We are just too pretty for God to let us die.”

Mal: “And Kaylee, what the hell’s goin’ on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose?”

Jayne: “These are stone killers, little man. They ain’t cuddly like me.”

Jayne: You know what the chain of command is? It’s the chain I go get and beat you with ‘til you understand who’s in ruttin’ command here.

Kaylee: “Yessir, Captain Tight Pants.”

Okay, I’ll stop now that I have solidified my status as a geek.

Oh, thank goodness I’m not the only Firefly freak out there in Christian-land. This thread restores my faith in the shininess of humanity.

As to religion in the series… well, I’m sure you’ve all noticed there actually was religion in the series. A major character who’s a pastor? A nice guy major character who’s a pastor? Ok, so he’s got a mysterious past. They all have mysterious pasts. I loved the whole thread that started with Mal wearing a cross during the firefight on Serenity valley and somehow losing his faith along with the war.

You might be interested in my review of the Serenity movie. Scroll down to the bottom of the page (the October 2005 archives). The post is headed “The dissertation is in the hands of the committee” but most of it is about the movie.

Oh man oh mano!
I love Firefly. Soooooooo dissapointed they kept messing with the time slot so it got bunk ratings and was cancelled.
The movie Serenity was fantastic.
Brilliant screenplay. Brilliant dialoge. Even the acting was good 🙂

My favorite quote is from the movie
I aim to misbehave

Actually, too many to have a favorite.
Wish they would make more Firefly shows.

Well, Firefly and Brisco County Jr,…

OK, now I gotta go watch 'em all over again.
