Fireworks for God

So I was watching the Ft. Vancouver Fireworks for the 4th of July. After 20 years of watching fireworks… I realized it was finally getting kind of boring.

But then I started thinking. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we did this for Easter instead of the 4th? I was standing on the interstate bridge crossing the Columbia river, watching fireworks shoot up in the air for miles and miles everywhere I looked. I prayed, "Lord, this is for you. You are risen! You are our true independence! "

It was very wonderful for me. So now I’m saving fireworks for Easter 😛

What do you guys all think?

This used to be done at Rome for Easter (on Easter Monday, actually) and also on the Feast of Ss. Peter and Paul. Other cities had similar customs.
 
Are they legal where you live? Here in Las Vegas, they are only legal on New Year’s Eve and the 4th of July and then only on the very night of each holiday. People are restricted as to the type they can buy and must have a liscense for the flashy, air-borne types, so it’s the casinos that put on the spectacular shows. That doesn’t mean that people don’t buy the illegal ones (they can buy them on the nearby reservation). It also doesn’t mean that they only set them off when it’s allowed. This year, they did it for several days before and the day afterward. It drives my dogs nuts and they won’t go outside to pee. So guess where they go? I get along with my neighbors and they’re all nice people, so I didn’t call the police, which is what I wanted to do when it was 12:00 Midnight and I had to get up for work the next morning and the Seige of Berlin was going on in the street outside (illegally). Also, every year here, a home or two burns down as a result of an illegal firework landing on it (again, the ones that fly through the air). This year, fortunately, it was just the gym of a middle school and it happened when no one was there, so no one’s life was endangered. As you can tell, I’m less than enthusiastic about the idea of fireworks at Easter.
 
I think it’s a really cool idea. They’re illegal here but we live pretty close to the PA border so it’s not hard to get access to them…somehow on the 4th they seem to pop up everywhere around here 😛

But yeah, I think it would lend a real extra feeling of celebration to the Easter holiday. 🙂

I have always hated fireworks. I always though they represented bombs as in “bombs bursting in air” I thought they celebrated the violent begining of our country.
 
The fireworks don’t have to be bombs bursting in air. Though I think that even bombs, when they explode and shower the earth with light, can be beautiful. It celebrates the idea that there is beauty even in destruction. (I swear I am not being New Age about this. There really is. Ever sat through a lightning storm?)

Personally, I think we could celebrate with a candle or fifty. What say we do “Easter trees” or chandeliers and light 'em up for the Easter Vigil? You know, sit under the light of the Easter candles and pray? NOw there’s a way to keep a vigil… 🙂

What other special ways can we celebrate the Lord’s resurrection? Cool, novel ideas!
