"First Among Equals" due to St. Peter's death occurring in Rome OR due to Rome being the Imperial City?

I would have to say Catholics agree with this statement that Christ is the Head of his Church but with the Caveat that Our Pope is his Vicar!👍
Eph. 2:[18] for through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father.
[19] So then you are no longer strangers and sojourners, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, [20] built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, [21] in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord; [22] in whom you also are built into it[singular] for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Interesting verse, shows how intimately connected they are as one.

Do you think that the pope could juridically move the seat of the papacy from Rome to some other location? It seems like he should be able to do that. If so, perhaps Pope Francis should make an ecumenical concession to the EO move the office of the papacy from Rome to Washington D.C. since Washington D.C. is the “Newest Rome.” 🙂
That works if Peter’s Chair was secular and invented by the powers of Emperor’s and world politics?

Peter’s office exists by Divine intervention, thus no matter from which part of the World the Popes have resided, Pope Francis from South America, maybe a future Pope from North America? They are raised from their local episcopacy, to that of the local episcopacy of Rome presiding in the Chair of Peter as Pope prince of the Apostles world wide.

If one attempts to view Peter and all his apostolic successors, including all the Patriarch’s of the East and** strip all of these of all their political influences and secular powers given to them by secular and worldly Emperor’s, KIngs, Dictators etc**. What do you think you would have standing?

Only a Bishop of Rome presiding in the Chair of Peter leader of the apostles and bishops apostolic successors to the apostles.

There would be no reason for these apostolic successors to hold to city metropolitan names or Patriarch’s as overseeing and ruling as Imperial subjects for a worldly throne.

The city names and secular power would never play any to no significance to the mind of the Church, only that an Apostolic successor lives their as an overseer (bishop) guarding and protecting his local flock and shepherd them in full communion with Peter.

The significance of Rome is for all apostolic successors world wide are to know, where to find Peter, who has never left Rome or his Episcopacy in Rome. When all other cities have come and gone and new ones yet to come.

Peace be with you

The extraordinary convergence on the papacy as the rightful head/ vicar of God for Lutherans with the Holy See’s willingness to commune those who do not believe in papal infallibility

The Pope does not dictate what God has revealed from God’s infallibility.

The Pope’s have no authority or power from man to change what God has already revealed.

How can you not believe in something if you don’t know what infallibility of Peter’s Chair "ex- Cathedra is? You reject what you do not know or understand it to be.

What Lutheran’s have is a distorted and misunderstood view of the divine revelation of God’s infallible protection to His revelations.

Whom God entrusted to Peter as divine Key Holder to loose and bind on earth, while God loose’s and binds from heaven.

When ever Peter exercises the divine Keys divinely given to him by Jesus himself. God protects His teachings and revelations to remain infallible that stand against all heresies and man invented ideologies. This Peter has done through out history, most of the time Peter in communion with his brethren rarely required of him to exercise what is Infallible, because Peter united to his brethren in full communion teach infallible what God has revealed in past councils, including the canon of the bible is an infallible Petrine statement without the declaration, due to the full communion.

Peter is never an infallible man, as some wrongly suggests.

And Peter cannot and has not infallibly taught anything that God has not already revealed.

Infallibility is the HolySpirit protecting Peter from ever teaching error, or from ever allowing the gates of hell to over come her. These past 2000 years is an impossibility for the Popes alone. Infallibility protected the Popes from error these past 2000 years to today.

So I would ask the Lutherans, to put aside your prejudiced views and those who have co-herced you into believing infallibility is a man invention when it never was or never is. Learn what infallibility is with the mind of Christ, not the mind of Luther, reformers and Greek Orthodox who don’t understand it themselves, because it was given to Peter alone and to those in full communion with Peter.

So get the infallble teachings of God from the Pillar and bulwark of Truth the Catholic Church, not from those who don’t have it by themselves.

Peace be with you

Very interesting subject. It seems to me that Matthew in his Gospel was preaching to Jewish converts who would have understood his passage 16 on the keys and what it means. They would have understood that Peter is the successor and leader of the Apostles trusted with the keys. While the keys are shared with all of the Apostles, it was to Peter alone that the keys are given. Peter being an Apostle was equal with the other Apostles but Peter was also the leader of all of the Apostles, which sets him apart from the rest of the Apostles as the leader as the rest of the Apostles are not leaders but under leadership of Peter.
