Hey guys, I have read these forums for about at least a year and a half but I only joined recently for the sakes of it. My question is about two controversial figures that the Catholic Church officially condemns but other apostolic churches treat as heroes of the faith. For Nestorius, modern scholarship has increasingly stated that he was not nearly the heretic he was and that St Cyril of Alexandria was being polemic towards him. A similar situation exists for Severus of Antioch, condemned by the Byzantines but treated as a hero by the Oriental Orthodox.
Could we potentially in spite of statements made by ecumenical councils or synods vindicate them or at least remove them from the list of heretics condemned in the liturgies?
