We just got back from our first Chrism Mass…it was wonderful! I feel like I was in the book of Revelation…
 
I wrote this last night and was just so in awe that I couldn’t write anything more. We had never been to a Chrism Mass and I wanted to go. Since we were the only ones from our parish, we were selected to bring back the oils. We got there early which was a good thing as it was packed! We used the extra time to say a rosary or two. From the moment where all the priest came in to the concluding rite…I felt like I was caught up in a heavenly liturgy…so much so that when the Archbishop was doing the incense around the altar I found myself saying, “all praise, glory, wisdom, thanksgivng, honor, power & strength be to our God forever and ever!”

We were able to find our priest in the mix…and when the words of concecration were being said…you could hear an echo as all the priests of the diocese were saying them too. It was just amazing!

To echo the words of the nice lady sitting next to us…I just LOVE being Catholic!
 
I’m glad you had a great and jubilant time at the Chrism Mass! I will be attending the Chrism Mass as well in the late afternoon at the cathedral.

In previous years I was very impressed with the ceremony and actions of the priest which demonstrated the glory and grandeur of the Kingdom of God.

The procession of the ministers and celebrants starts outside if the weather is bright. At the procession the antiphon “Ecce Sacerdos magnus” composed by Anton Bruckner is sung with organ accompaniment. It was truly fitting that this antiphon is sung because at that moment all the priests are processing in followed by the bishop. This antiphon refers to Our Lord Jesus Christ the high priest whom all ordained priests are configured to at ordination.
Ecce sacerdos magnus, qui in diébus suis plácuit Deo: Ideo jure jurando fecit illum Dóminus crescere in plebem suam. Benedictiónem ómnium géntium dedit illi, et testaméntum suum confirmávit super caput ejus. Ideo jure jurando fecit illum Dóminus crescere in plebem suam.

At this Mass nearly every priest of the diocese con celebrates with the bishop and parishioners are brought in by the busloads from the farther parts of the diocese. It’s a union and reunion of sorts with Catholic brethren and for brother priests amongst themselves and their bishop.

After the homily the priests renew their obedience and promises to the bishop and the congregation promises to support and pray for them. The three oil canisters are brought forward by transitional and permanent deacons containing the oil of the catechumen, of the sick and the sacred chrism. The antiphon “O Redemptor, Sumen Carmen” is chanted with the respective versicles. After the oils are blessed and consecrated, the Mass continues as usual. During the preparation of the gifts all the concelebrants process into the sanctuary proper and remain there until after they have communicated.

This liturgy is one that exemplifies the Lord and the union with His Church.
 
Chrism mass was awesome. The choir and the music were resplendent. The church was packed–all ages, races, ethnicities, etc. Truly universal.

I have so much respect for priests. They sacrifice so much but most seemed very happy as they processed down the aisle. I often wonder if they ever feel like they missed out on life (a wife, children, etc) and I can’t even fathom what getting that call from God must be like! But I’m sure He gives them exactly what they need. . .It is a great mystery for sure.
 
I haven’t been able to go for a couple of years, but it is beautiful. 👍
 
My second Chrism Mass. So beautiful a liturgy. And such discipline, the Bishop mentioned his service to Pope Benedict Quoted the Saints throughout his homily. I could not help but be brought to tears it was so moving.
 
Ours is on Holy Thursday morning. None of our priests are going so I am going to get the oils. Last year I walked up in procession with the oil of catechumens.
 
I think of that too as I am standing singing the Sanctus at every Mass - especially when we use incense. I was in awe this past Sunday. I thought, “Wow, I really feel like we are participating in the heavenly worship!”
 
Tonight I went to my 2nd Chrism Mass. I loved it so much. A beautiful full cathedral. With a pipe organ and incense and a whole lot of priest it amazing to see.
I really like to hear the pipe organ so much and they don’t happen that often any more. It was a French and English mass. I was so disappointed when all the English songs were done with a guitar. I’m sick of hearing guitar alone for mass. Other then that it was amazing!
 
I just got back from the Chrism Mass! I got chills a few times. I just love that Mass so much.
 
I too attended my first Chrism Mass.
It was so beautiful and awe inspiring. I loved it.
All those people from all walks of life put me in mind of the scripture (Romans 14:11) Every knee shall bow, every tounge confess !
Watching the Priests comming two by two then all together re commiting was so great I dont think I have the words to describe it.
