First Communion Gift

my name is Angel

My niece has her first holy communion this year. we had Rose Quartz and sterling silver rosary beads made for her for her Christening. we want to get her something equally as precious and also something she can keep throughout her life as a memento

a little back ground, i’m Pagan, CR- Irish polytheist(i don’t wish to discuss this in this thread, but i never had a first communion so not sure what exactly to give), however I grew up in a catholic family. so i know this is an important day in her life.

this is my Husbands, brothers eldest daughter.

i originally thought to get her a chain and little gold cross, maybe with a diamond, but i think this is something her parents might buy for her. her mother is Lebanese and her family is very religious and so i don’t want to tread on toes.

currently i thought to get a bracelet maybe with faith hope and charity charms, or with rose quarts to emulate or represent her rosary beads
because of our beliefs and practices the inclusion of the stones will make the gift special and representative to us, of the love and hopes we have for her and i realise this would make some uncomfortable but symbols are harmless unless they mean something to someone.

wondering if this would be a good thing to get? or what else we could get her?
her 9th birthday is just 1 week before her communion so would like to get her something nice as a combined gift rather than two smaller gifts

Would it be possible to get the rose quartz in the shape of a cross or heart? Then that can on on the bracelet or chain. If put on a bracelet, then each year on her birthday another charm can be added. That is, if it’s of any interest to her.

yes rose quarts can be carved easily and charms or pendants like this are easy to find especially crosses
i also thought about a Pandora brand bracelet or yes another charm bracelet. i have one, also my great aunts so it is something she will keep and can be added to and changed over the years getting the original bracelet and a charm or two for her communion they have a dangle cross charm, or one with a cross carved in ,

she has a sister who is 2 years younger and we got moonstone rosary made for her christening , so something like a charm bracelet would be easily found in two years for her 1st communion too
something they can both have for a long time from their uncle and aunt.

That sounds like a nice idea. A crucifix for her room is also a nice idea. Or, if you wanted to spend a little more as a combined gift, maybe a portrait of the Blessed Mother or Sacred Heart for her bedroom. I think a bracelet with the charms or rose quartz is equally nice, though.

thats a nice idea, i don’t know how that would go tho the girls share a room at the moment and the house is decorated in quite a modern minimalist way with a few select personal family items and pictures around. there is a lovely tasteful crucifix in the hall way just as you enter the house and of equal distance from the girls room.

there is a shelf on the main wall behind their beds, a window on the other and the two beds at opposite walls

we have a beautiful frosted crystal statue of the Madonna, very elegant, that was my grandmothers her employer and good friend gave to her, he was Jewish but loved her, it is worth a fair bit, he left it to my grandmother in his will because she always liked it. and it has captured a lot of people in our family since, is subtle and not at all impending like they can be but noticed as well

something like that for the shelf in their room instead of something to hang might be a good idea, thanks , i didn’t really think of an icon , great suggestion !
