Well, my first Confession for about 20 years went… very well. Father assured me that there would be no need for a Tesco shopping list of sins (not that there was), stating that there were many positives about this return, and he even helped me with an Act of Contrition once he’d passed through my Penance on a sheet of folded A5.
This was after I had taken my position on a pew that contained three elderly confessants, who - I am sure - lasted under a minute. I did think that it would be considerate of me to inform the lady who would be taken after me that “I may be some time.”
I returned to Church by going to ask for help from God; I was so humbled on that wet Friday afternoon some months ago that instead I thanked Him for what I already had.
I’m extremely nervous about Communion tomorrow, but I am beginning a journey that was merely interrupted; at 42, and as a father, I understand the importance and privilege of my awakening Faith - CTS Bible and Divine Office recently purchased and helping to nourish my inner flame.
