It all depends on the set up at your parish.

Call the parish office and simply ask the secretary what the set up is like there. Most of us are nice people 🙂

There are good resources, examinations of conscience. From earlier posts, maybe you have not received any sort of religious ed, right? Tell your priest that when you walk in “I was baptized as an infant and I want to live my Catholic Faith”. Father will take it from there.

In general, I try to list my sins individually. If a mortal sin has been committed, it needs to be identified and one should say the number of times . If I have a type of venial sin I committed multiple times under similar circumstances, I try do the same.

In your case, I would say each type and the number of times (or the best guess of the number of times).

Sorry if I’m misunderstanding, but do you think I shouldn’t go to confession? Or do you mean something else?

She’s Catholic. She wants to go to Confession. She’s sorry for her sins and has a purpose of amendment. That’s all that’s required. Yes, she could stand to receive some catechism but Confession is not a bad place to start. I wouldn’t want to be the one recommending to a fellow Catholic that they not go to Confession.

If you want to argue against that, OK. Have a wonderful day!

With Easter just around the corner, I sort of assume that anyone who posts about making their First Confession is getting prepared to enter the Church at the Easter Vigil. All the (previously baptized) folks in my RCIA class are making their first Confession next week. It’s not really optional for them to skip it if they want to come into the Church at Easter.

So would I walk in and it would first be behind the screen, and then if one wanted to, one would ask to do face to face?
As LittleLady said, you’ll have to ask about the set up at your parish. Going to Confession behind a screen should always be an option, but some Churches were built at a time where people didn’t take that as seriously. Thus their Confessionals are constructed in a way that doesn’t give that option.

Ideally, though, you would have either option. You shouldn’t have to do one first and then the other. You should be able to choose each time. Though, technically, I believe it’s up to the priest whether he wants to allow face-to-face Confession. I don’t think he has to allow it, though most do. No priest should deny anonymous Confession, though. But, again, sometimes the facilities make it difficult to accommodate.

Just say them as you did here. I have confessed worse. Masturbation has got to be among the most common sins confessed. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. Father has probably heard people confess that sin practically every time he has been in the box.

@Marshmallow2 I mean what i said in the first place .

You say that you have never been to Confession .

You say that you were never brought up Catholic .

You say that you have only been curious and more connected to religion in the last 6 months or so .

You need preparation for Confession , plus there are issues in your life for which you need help .

A forum like this is no place to be prepared for your first Confession .

So as I said , you need to see a priest who will give you preparation for Confession , and to the best of his ability will help you with your problems . Don’t be afraid . He will be only too glad to see you .

Take heart , and take care ,

Sorry I probably sound like some stupid kid  . I just feel really stupid for what I did.
What do you mean ‘properly prepared’ though?
I mean I kinda need to sneak out or find excuses to go to Mass on Sundays as my Mother isn’t religious and doesn’t exactly approve of it, as far as I’ve gathered, and although I’d actually quite like to speak to someone, it’s quite hard to under these circumstances.
I know I might not be a ‘proper’ Catholic, but I believe in Him and was welcomed into the Church when I was a baby and am feeling more spiritual recently. I’m just pretty angry at myself at the moment. Do you think I should do it after Easter when it’s less busy with the extra services etc.?

Also it says the author withdrew your posts (not sure if that’s me or you!) but if it was me I didn’t mean to!!!

Let me see if I am understanding where you are at. You were baptized Catholic, but your family doesn’t really practice and you never went to any sort of formal religious education. Is that accurate?

If that is the case, it would certainly be wise to inquire with the priest about receiving any sacraments you missed (i.e. Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation). There is formation that you should receive in preparation for receiving these sacraments.

And, yes, it would be best for your parents not to be kept in the dark about it as you are still a minor.

OP to what extent does your parent not agree with it ? Does she actively forbid you going to church?
