Our priest has told us that he cannot remember after the fact, what people tell him in confession. Maybe it’s because he hears so many. Maybe he tries to forget, maybe he really tries to put it behind him and forget. The important thing to remember, is that as big as your sin may have been over 40 years, the forgiveness that God holds out is so much bigger, so much more vast and deep than your pile of sins. There’s an endless supply of forgiveness and love, all there for the taking. Remember the father running to the son in the parable of the prodigal son. You’re running into the arms of love.
