Today being First Friday, I thought I’d try yet again to start a 9 consecutive first Friday devotion. I’m not sure if all the requirements are the same as they are for first Saturday, or if the requirements for one satisfy the requirements for the other simultaneously. From what I understand, the usual requirements apply: confession, receipt of Holy Eucharist, and prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions consisting of at least one Our Father and one Hail Mary.

I’m specifically asking in regard to the confession requirement. Does the confession requirement also exist for the first Friday devotion? Does the confession need to occur on first Friday? Do you need to make a second confession on first Saturday if you want to celebrate the first Saturday devotion as well?

The reason I’m asking is I just had a confession heard this past Wednesday (I didn’t have my toddler with me, and I took the opportunity to have my confession heard in peace). I wondered if that confession would suffice for the devotion this time around.

Thanks for any (name removed by moderator)ut!

Receiving nine consecutive First Fridays is actually only part of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

If you don’t have the devotion to the Sacred Heart, but just receiving nine first Fridays, you’ll be missing the most important part of it all.

You do not have to go to confession(unless in the state of mortal sin), before the first Friday.

Here’s a link for with the information on devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus;

I’m not up on first Saturday devotions.
