From what age are Byzantine Catholics allowed to receive First Holy Communion?

In the Eastern Churches (Catholic and Orthodox) the sacraments of initiation are given in one liturgical setting. Because of this, infants who have been baptized and chrismated (confirmed) receive the Body and Blood of our Lord.

Wow never realized that was the case. So even young infants can receive Holy communion! Would a young child baptised in a Byzantine church say even 2 or 3 years old be able to receive Holy communion during a RC mass?

Yes. The priest may need to be informed ahead of time to be prepared. Normally, for a time, infants receive only one species due to difficulty with solid food.

Maronites may receive first communion in second grade however, since the practice is not normalized in all eastern sui iuris churches. Chaldean Catholics may similarly receive first communion in the third grade.

This was also the practice of the Latin Church but ended around the first millennia.

As noted above, yes.

When my siblings and I were babies we received only Baptism and Chrismation and had First Holy Communion at 7 years old.

Now it’s back to traditional Byzantine practice.

In the EOC, we Baptize and Chrismate give first Communion at 40 days of age…

But we recently baptized a 3 year old afraid of water, and the child hated it so much she refused Communion for the first 39 days… But on the 40th day after Baptism, she Received… Just a 3 year old’s 40 day silent rant, and now she is over it… She was not pressured to receive, and chose day 40 without knowing it was day 40…

Kids are the best!
