Ok folks! I’m going to my first RCIA class tonight and I am so excited!
I have lurked on the Catholic.com forum for nearly 4 years now! I am finally going to attend RCIA.
Please pray for me. My husband is supportive, but will not be attending. We are currently active in a Southern Baptist church, so this is a little sticky for us, but I am greatful he is supporting me in my decision.
Thanks in advance!
😃

congrats on your decision i was so nervous before my first rcia meeting but of course it was wonderful let us know how it goes

I have been to several RCIA classes so far. We dismiss after the homily every week and discuss the readings and have classes that go for an hour or so every other week or so.

I’ve read a lot of people saying their classes were poorly organized or really simplistic but I enjoy mine. We saw this great video about St. Paul’s travels and learned a lot about Church history (I knew some about the Council of Nicea and Vatican II but there was so much more we discussed).

Hopefully, your classes go well.🙂

Ok, I think I built it up more in my head than it actually turned out to be. The speaker was well intentioned, but had I not already had a relationship with Christ as a protestant I would have walked away shaking my head in confusion to some degree. He was attempting to explain the Trinity and it was not exactly a home run.
There were some in the class who talked nearly the ENTIRE time. THAT was really annoying and I thought disrespectful to the speaker. One of them was in the class and the other a SPONSOR. I could hardly believe the sponsor was being so rude. I would have thought she’d be more of an example. However, I know we’re all human and have poor judgement at times. Maybe next week they’ll be more respectful.
We are using a book entitled Believing in Jesus by Leonard Foley. They gave me a book and a Catholic Bible. I thought that was really nice.
I am hoping to learn a lot and have an answer at the end. I think I already know the answer, but am a little concerned about how it will all play out.
🙂

Welcome home. My husband converted from the Southern Baptist tradition in 2002. His class used the Believing in Jesus book.

The nuances are often argued to death, do you understand the general concept?

patience is always tested

Ok tonight’s class was much better. It was a better delivery of subject matter and the class was more respectful. I hope it stays that way!😉
I do get the concepts. Now I have a sponsor and that helps a lot as well. She is very enthusiastic and is going to be a great person to talk to, I just know it.
Thank you for all of your encouragement.

Having a good sponsor is key! Mine was wonderful (Thank you Kaylee!!!) I just went through last year, so if you want my perspective feel free to PM me!

Welcome home!:extrahappy: :dancing: :clapping:

Hey, I’m in RCIA as well. I had the same experience in the beginning, I couldn’t stand the classes and some of the people in there talked too much. I felt like I wasn’t learning much.

Now things have mellowed out a lot, and we have been doing a lot of good discussions as a group.

Also, it helps me that I am extremely devoted to the faith. I decided a few months back that this was what I wanted to do, and I began devoting all my resources towards learning as much as I could about the faith. I participate in Rosary groups, Christian Fellowships at my school, bible studies, along with RCIA. I hang out with some devout Catholics and they are always happy to answer all of my questions.

There is so much involved with Catholicism, it is amazing.
