First statue

I just ordered, finally, my first statue of Jesus. I have icons already, but a statue just seemed, to my protestant trained mind, a step too far into Catholicism. But I love the sacred heart devotion, and it felt like the right time. I don’t know how I shall feel when it’s out of the box! But I am excited, like when you used to wait for photos to come back from the chemist!
 
Excellent! I hope it arrives in time for the Feast of the Sacred Heart, next month.

Are you going to have it blessed? Personally I have all my statues, pictures, rosaries, medals etc blessed. It is not necessary but I prefer to have such items blessed. I am sure your priest would be happy to bless it for you.

I should think I shall get it blessed, yes, but probably not for a while, I’m still getting to know the priests. I have social anxiety, so I’m very nervous about approaching them anyway. I’m going to start attending a Journey in Faith course in September, and I am hoping my nerves will abate as I get to know them better. I did manage to ask a priest to bless a rosary sometime ago after Mass.

If it helps; did you know that you can have an item blessed by the priest by holding it up at the end of Mass when the priest gives the final blessing? It is true. If you would feel shy about approaching the priest to have an article blessed (though you shouldn’t) you can always bring it to Mass with you and hold it in front of you at the final blessing and it will be blessed. How you would do this with a statue is another matter as they are usually rather bulky but it can be done; perhaps put it in a bag with the top exposed. I was told this by a priest I know and it is also the way that pilgrims have items blessed when at Mass at a famous apparition site of Our Lady. It may help you.

Congrats! I’ve been contemplating starting a prayer corner in my house and was looking for a statue of Jesus to be the focal point. Which store/website did you purchase it from?
 
Ridiculously enough, it came from Amazon. I do look on cenacle.co.uk but my budget ran to this one. It’s not the most artistically beautiful piece, not like some the really affecting ones, but will have a special place for me because of everything and the One it represents.
