So, had training as a Extraordinary Minister yesterday evening and was told it would be a month before we were on the schedule since it was already made for June. Whew…
Was called today and I am being called upon starting this Sunday…
I have a general question as to the proper respect whenever i have completed distribution and return any hosts to the Deacon/Priest at the Tabernacle. Do i bow as i first approach when returning?
And then bow as i leave while still in front or do i get out of the way then bow towards the Tabernacle?

I have been trying to pay attention knowing this was approaching but now am anxious.
Thank you

You shoudl ask your priest, but here’s the way we do it:

You don’t bow to the altar or the priest.
You simply bring back the unused hosts.
You stand back, or wait with the other EMHC’s at the foot of the altar and all bow together as the priest closes the Tabernacle and then go back to your pew.

Other places may do it differently. But that’s happens at our parish.

Same on this side of the pond. Dee - relax and trust in God. 👍 I have offered a prayer for you.

Do not bow if you are carrying anything. We bow at the foot altar and then return to our seat. Get there early and ask one of the other EM’s before Mass starts. IT WILL BE AN AWESONE EXPERIENCE, so don’t worry about it if you forget anyway. 😃

That’s how I generally see it done. There’s no need to bow to show reverence when you are actually holding Jesus. And bowing while carrying the Eucharist introduces the risk of dropping Him.

But, yeah, you want to do it the way your priest wants it to be done. 🙂

How long was your training? At my Parish, the EMHC go through a six month training course with the Priest. All this should have been gone over during your classes. You should ask your EMHC Spiritual Director these questions. There’s always a good stand by rule; “When in doubt, Bow”.

Hysterical laughter. My “training” consisted of the priest saying, “Your Catholic, you know what to do.” I asked a few of the other EMOH about the details and away I went. Five minutes max. My one recommendation is TAKE YOUR TIME when giving the body and blood. Look people in the eye. Your “Body of Christ” and “Blood of Christ” should be words of awe and joy. After that – relax and enjoy the closeness to God Himself.
