So, first of all, this is not to debate the merits of her fiction or whether or not her cause should be opened… (Although I love her writings, fiction and not, and think she should be canonized)
I heard a while ago that her cause had been opened, but a quick search of the Google didn’t show anything. Anyone know if the rumor I heard was wrong, or if her cause has been opened? Maybe somebody from her diocese? 🦚

As far as I can find Rome has never opened a cause for canonization of her.

I could definitely get behind this. I visited her grave in Milledgeville a few years ago and put the pennies on her gravestone, such as is invariably done for well-known people. I like her fiction and she definitely had a Catholic world view. From all indications she lived a life of great faith and virtue.

Speaking of visiting graves, the funny one to visit is the grave of Frances Bavier, “Aunt Bee” from The Andy Griffith Show, in Siler City, North Carolina. People come and leave jars of store-bought pickles there, in reference to the episode where her efforts at canning pickles went horribly wrong. I did not know people did this, and all I had was pennies.

The South is easily the most interesting part of the United States to visit.

Requiescant in pace.

I’m not aware of any cause being formally opened for her. Some people like to call her Servant of God Flannery O’Connor, or argue that she should be beatified, but if she actually had an active cause, it would no doubt make the news media due to her fame and also the fact that we have relatively few US saints, so the diocese pushing her cause (I presume it would have to be a diocese as she was not in religious life) would likely publicize it even if she herself wasn’t so well known. There’s nothing in news search about her ever having a cause, and there are also a number of blog posts and articles written by people who say they aren’t aware of her having a cause or say things like “if she should ever have a cause…”

To be honest I am also not aware of anything in her life that would seem to support a cause for sainthood.
