Flying on Thursday, June 7, terrified

I am flying from Atlanta to Richmond on June 7 in the afternoon.

I know that it is very safe to fly, but I am terrified.

Please pray for my sanity. I know that I will not truly go crazy, but I am getting more and more nervous.

I will be praying.

I have flown over 10 times in the past 7 months and can say that I have felt comfortable everytime. A rosary helps out with that.
 
I’ve flown for years and I still sometimes get a little nervous, especially on takeoff and landing - but then I put it down to watching too many airline disaster movies 😛 And having an overactive imagination.

Prayers to Saint Christopher, patron of travellers, and St Joseph of Cupertino, patron of aviators, for a safe flight.

If you’re a real worrier, you could call your priest and make an appointment for Confession the day before. I often do that before I travel, and it does ease the mind a lot.
 
You’re getting some good advice here about going to Confession before you fly, and about saying the Rosary for a safe journey.

Praying for your safe journey and your calm flight. Bring your rosary. Focus on the purpose of the journey and bring your favorite scripture or music with you to help settle your anxieties.
Believe it or not - Christmas music works anytime of the year.

Flying is the easy part.

Getting through the Atlanta airport is the only part that should make you nervous. 😉
 
Yep - just make sure you get to confession first and then relax and leave the rest to God.
 
There is no need to be nervous. Have faith.

In Chapter four of the Gospel of Mark Jesus talks about his disciples having little faith:

35That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.”

36Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.

37A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.

38Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?”

39He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Why are you lacking in faith?”

41They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”

As a pilot, I will pray for you and your peace of mind.

I recall seeing a movie many years ago, with Nicolas Cage. “City of Angels”. In the movie, angels were “visible” to the movie viewer.

I will never forget one scene that depicted a large group of guardian angels sitting in, on and around a jet airliner as it was being serviced, just to make sure all went well. While I know this is Hollywood, I think this is one of those rare times when they got it right.

I would encourage you to bring your rosary with you and proay for the pilots, and cabin crew throughout the flight. Pilots always need prayers! And they always appreciate them!
