Focus on Mychal Judge as a 'gay saint' is problematic

“Saint of 9/11” is a propaganda film. It is about Mychal Judge and makes it look like he supported secular liberal idealogies, which as far as I am aware, is not true.

If Fr. Judge was living a chaste life, it shouldn’t matter what his sexual temptations were; it matters that he overcame them. If he wasn’t living a chaste life, a selfless death can pay for that.

But yeah, nobody promotes a guy as an “adulterous saint,” “fornicating saint,” or “lusting saint,” much less a “thieving saint” or “murderous saint.” You don’t become a saint as a showcase and recommendation for your besetting sins and temptations.

The point is that they sinned, but then they repented.

The important thing is being a “repentant saint,” a “virtuous saint,” and a “heroic saint.”

If he never said he was gay during his lifetime, it would be improper to attribute it to him after his death.

While I find this interesting and heartening, I feel that the secular media will fail to highlight the continence and purity that Father Judge would have had to lived with if he struggled wth homosexuality.

I would love for him to be canonized as he seems to have been a good and saintly man during his time as a priest and we need more priests like him.
I’m not holding my breath for it to happen any time soon because of the controversy.
I got a medal of him a while back with his prayer on the back

Lord, take me where You want me to go;
Let me meet who You want me to meet;
Tell me what You want me to say, and
Keep me out of Your way.

The media is just focusing on the gossip and sparkles when it comes to religion - any religion. 😶

A ‘gay saint’ would not be the same as an adulterous Saint because the former refers to the inclinations and not the actions themselves.

Honestly, an openly gay Saint would be an amazing role model for the LGBT community in the Church because the fact that he is a Saint would mean that he eventually managed to submit to God. A very counter cultural figure for them

This could be a very good role model, if it is talked about correctly. If it makes it seem like we condone sodomy, then that would be a problem.

A number of years ago, I learned to her Father Judge offered general absolution for all the occupants of the twin towers. A firefighter had approached him before heading into the towers for a blessing and Father Judge let him know he offered general absolution for the fire fighters and for everyone in the buildings.

He died minutes later.

I will always believe that among the heroes on 9/11 he was the greatest.

May he Rest In Peace.

I already bought a medal of him some months ago for my rosary. To have a Catholic priest representing so heroically in such a situation was very moving to me. I wish the media would focus more on these holy priests just going quietly about their business and not on the relatively small percentage who are pedophiles or have addictions or other problems. Unfortunately, the latter are the ones who make the news, so people assume that all priests are like that because the “bad” ones are the only ones they hear about.

it’s too bad that in order to get any notice in the public eye, good priests have to die a dramatic death while doing their job, as Fr. Judge did, and Fr. Hamel in France.
