I’m under the opinion that I may be “addicted” to food. Please pray for me!
Thank you and God Bless.

when I was being tested for allergies a while back allergist told me any food you eat almost every day, or can’t go without for more than a day or two is the most likely suspect for an allergy. there are substances that can turn an allergy into a true addiction, caffeine for instance.

binge eating can be an addiction for some people, and I saw an article someplace this week, yahoo probably, that this is a no. 1 health problem among women.

I guess the spirituality aspect would be meditation on the sin of gluttony, and the virtue that opposes it–one priest told me it is the virtue of charity or generosity, interesting. I maintain that asking someone to do a radical diet change requires the same mental, physical, psychological and spiritual support that would be given a drug or alcohol addict trying to get cured. same with tobacco. Will power only goes so far.

I thank-you for you (name removed by moderator)ut! It’s not a certain “food”. My problem is with all foods; I don’t stop eating even though I know I should. If it is there I will eat……

I’m not asking for advice, seeing I know that CAF rules does not permit that.

I’m getting medical help from my Dr. (seeing I am Morbidly Obese)

I just would like some prayers, because I know that I have to get this under control and I can’t do it on my own.

In my opinion this is harder then say being addicted to alcohol or drugs. If you are addicted to those things part of the recovery is “avoiding” those things. I can’t avoid food! I need food to live!

Thank you for your prayers.

Amen - my prayers for you, just to let you know that I and so many others out there in internet land have our own major struggles in this area.

And we wonder why obesity is the major health problem in the western world. As you so correctly pointed out, all the hallmarks of an addiction without being able to ‘cold turkey’ avoid the triggers for it.

I’m not going to bombard you with advice, but there may be one thing you possibly haven’t considered. And that is to cut your TV watching down or preferably out completely - there is SO much out there in the way of food advertising and cooking shows that it essentially keeps your mind on food non-stop. It’s certainly helped me with the overeating and other problematic areas of my life.

eggzakly, and it is so hard for people who don’t have this battle to understand that truth,
we are praying for you
and I truly think the AA philosophy of trust in God is the only real help out there.
Getting Free by Bert Ghazi, and the story of Matt Talbott have been of tremendous help to me and others I know battling such addictions to food, alcohol, tobacco, and behaviors.
again, prayer and more prayer, we’re with you on that.

thank-you! :blessyou:

It has been awhile since I’ve been here.

I just wanted to say thanks for the prayers…

I can’t say that things have been better, but at the same time I can’t say they are worst.

God Bless!
