He must have been about two or three, but wanted something, and held it in his hands. One of the two women he was with grabbed it out of his hands, smacked him so hard he fell down, and one shoe came off. Then she tossed the object up into another display. The other adult with them picked him up, and put him in the cart. There was a female child about 11 with them, as well.

Both my cashier and I watched the situation. I called upon the Holy Ghost to intervene. The group was checking out further down from me, and the child was calmer when I left.

The only thing I could think of was, “And they wonder why their kids end up in gangs.”

Later, for our spiritual reading time, I resumed reading the Catechism. Scandal was the subject.

For that little boy, may he receive the love and care and gentleness and guidance every child needs and deserves, may he be protected from all harm and may he grow up happy and healthy. For his carers to have their eyes opened, their hearts changed and their behavior/treatment of him and any other children in their care be what it should be.
