For crying out loud let me get this right

Okay, sure I can be sweet and all nice but when something this serious comes up, I can not be so sweet-as-butterscotch-pudding:

Let me get this straight:

So IF I confess ALL the sins I could remember and even came back a second time to confess forgetting unconfessed ones too, than I am absolved, right?

Now I just took my first Communion Sunday unaware of any sins for the whole day.

If I remember another sin that I forgot to mention on Sat. or Fri. AM I FORGIVEN THAT TOO?

Someone PLEASE explain!!
 
Once you make a worthy confession (confessing all mortal sins you remember by kind and number) and receive absolution you are forgiven. If you remember a mortal sin that you forgot to confess it’s forgiven (you don’t fall out of a state of sanctifying grace when you remember it). Just bring it up at your next confession.
 
yes, you’re absolved of ALL of your sins at Confession, even the ones you forgot, as long as you are truly sorry for them. God understands that we are forgetful, He would never hold that against us. If you forget a sin that is really heavy on your heart, by all means there is no harm in confessing it the next time, but the absolution we recieve from Christ is complete and total.

Keep in mind that in the Confiteor at Mass (prior to Communion) you ask for forgiveness of your venial sins. It is only your mortal sins that require Confession.

Therefore if I forgot to say sorry for not forgiving people like I should and now mean it, than I am absolved for that even though it popped in my head yesterday? See, when it did, I wasn’t going to Communion tomorrow because I didn’t know you were absolved from unintentionally forgetful sins. I thought once you remembered them, can’t take Communion until you confess them at next Confession.

Now I do feel better.
 
glad to clear it up:) I wish I could feel the passion you’re displaying as a new member of the Church, I don’t think a lot of cradle catholics remember what it means to be alive like you are for Jesus and His Church…thanks for the reminder:)

Well, since the parish I go to rarely says the “I confess to Almighty God and to you my brothers and sisters…”, can I still say that in my heart at Mass and still be forgiven?

Or I should say it along with the EWTN Daily Mass?!😛

My parish sometimes omit this wonderful prayer too. They replace it with “Lord, have Mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy”. At this point, you’re calling on the Lord to have mercy on you and everyone else. During that time you can say to the Lord in your own mind, “Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner; Christ, have mercy on me, a sinner; Lord, have mercy on me, a sinner.” I usually say this if the priest omits the prayer you mentioned.

Yes. But even if you don’t say it, keep in mind that venial sins are not sins that prevent one from receiving the Eucharist. I think the reason that some Pastors don’t use the Confiteor every week is to make sure it doesn’t become rote such that there isn’t a quick examination of conscience. The primary threat to our salvation of venial sins is that thru repetition and a lack of contrition, they can lead to mortal sin. Based on your posts, I don’t really think these are matters for which you need to beat yourself up over. I think that the consensus of most Priests is that Confession once or twice a month in the absence of mortal sin is usually appropriate and to guard against misuse of the Sacrament via scrupulosity if you think you need to more often than that unless you have a particular virulent temptation that you can’t seem to shake.
 
Pari ,You are a piece of clay that God is molding into a beautiful vessel.It takes time to work clay.There are many impurities the Lord will begin to remove. Some of those are your past sins which He will bring to the surface so that they can be removed.You are a work in progress.Let God do His job. Be still and listen to Him while He has you on the wheel. 👍 God Bless
