*Long-time listeners of Catholic Answers Live may know who I mean when I mention Gil in Queens. Although I can’t confirm this beyond question, I’m fairly sure that Gil has been calling the show regularly for something like ten years. He also sometimes calls other Catholic radio shows. (You can hear one of his calls here, starting at around 3:40 of the file: catholic.com/radio/shows/open-forum-7853#)
As he is very open about, Gil suffers both from blindness as well as acute tinnitus. He is also a very deeply and devout Protestant Christian, and frankly, I don’t know that I’ve ever heard of or met a Protestant who loves Catholics as much as he. Listening to him is like listening to a living icon of what Christianity and life in Christ is all about. He has many beautiful anecdotes about his life that he often reveals, and they are always touching and quite moving.
Please pray for Gil. I am sure that his public devotion to Our Lord draws many closer to a deeper embrace of Christ and of suffering. But Gil certainly can use our prayers himself. Please pray for his strength regarding his blindness and for his tinnitus, and also that he may cooperate with grace so as to fully embrace Christ’s Church.*
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
