What are your thoughts on the Jewish mystical traditions (I’ll use the term kabbalah to encompass them), and how they evolved. Also, the practice of the mishmash, new age kabbalah practiced by many today.
The growth of new age Kabbalah seems to be a response to those who seek a more intellectual basis for their spirituality and is also perhaps fueled by a certain fascination toward Jews and Judaism.
Their efforts are sadly misplaced and those people who have a true background in Jewish philosophy can only look askance at what is being taught.
Far better and more productive, for those seeking such intellectual stimulation among the Jews, would be an interest in Torah and Talmud to discover a far deeper understanding to those familiar biblical stories and passages.
I bring one small example here of a discussion of the meaning of Man being created in God’s image.
