As-Salaamu Alaykum!

I was curious why when a prophets name is mentioned it is always followed by “Peace Be Upon Him (PBUH)” or “Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him”?

This might almost seem like a “captain obvious” type of question, but is it to gain them merit for Heaven?

Is it akin to praying for the dead?

Basically, what necessitates this?

Is it wrong to mention a prophet’s name and not follow with this?

Would we call it a “blessing”…or is there a proper term for it?

Because its obligatory in Quran and Hadith, per the following references:

(Quran 33:56):
Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet: O ye that believe! send ye blessings on him, and salute him with all respect.

**Muslim, Book 004, Number 0747: **
“'Abdullah b. Amr b. al-As reported Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: When you hear the Mu’adhdhin, repeat what he says, then invoke a blessing on me, for everyone who invokes a blessing on me will receive ten blessings from Allah; then beg from Allah al-Wasila for me, which is a rank in Paradise fitting for only one of Allah’s servants, and I hope that I may be that one. If anyone who asks that I be given the Wasila, he will be assured of my intercession.”
(E) (A)

Musnad Ahmeed, Number 1645:
Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said, stingy a person whom I mentioned in front of him and he doesn’t bless me”.
(A)

Musnad Ahmeed, Number 7139:
"Allah’s Messenger (may peace be upon him) said, the person who I mentioned in front of him and doesn’t bless me (let him stick his nose in the sand). (1)

So…the purpose of doing it is to gain Heavenly merit?
Does doing this benefit Mohammad (May The God have Mercy on him) since he is no dead?
Or is it only beneficial for the person saying it?

Are these verses to apply only to while Mohammad (May The God have Mercy on him) was alive?

The part that mentions being assured of his intercession, is that refer to him being alive or dead, or both?
  • Is this similar to the intercessory prayers of Saints and Angels?

So isn’t this considered intercessory prayer? And what does it mean by “rank in paradise”?

I wonder if it isn’t enough to utter it internally instead of writing it 5 times in a single passage…is one time less respectful that each time the name is uttered in a single paragraph or speech? dunno …God never asked this about any prophet…maybe it is another priviledge to Muhammad, or maybe he just took it from Eastern Christians and turned it into the mandatory eternal word of Allah.

I mean no offense by this, but sometimes it is annoying.
Like, when listening to a seminar, or anything…it becomes almost cumbersome to listen to because all you hear is “peace be upon him”…over and over!

He is dead!.
Or is it only beneficial for the person saying it?
It benefits both sides.

Yes, it applies in his life & death.
The part that mentions being assured of his intercession, is that refer to him being alive or dead, or both?
It refers to his intercession on the judgment day.

Since I don’t know how to pray for Saints and Angels, then I don’t know the answer yet.

Somehow, because in other hadiths you would get also Allah’s blessing.
And what does it mean by “rank in paradise”?
The highest single place in paradise called “al-Wasila”, and its for one person only, so Muhammed want that place for himself.:ehh:

Hmm, and some Muslims tell me Islam does’nt allow intercessory prayers. I wish someone could give me a straight answer.

That sounds very selfish to me. Why would a self-proclaimed servant of Allah want all the glory for himself?
