I’m also hoping to convert soon, but I look forward to confession! I can’t wait! (Weird, yes. But I love everything about the Church, including this wonderful sacrement of reconciliation.)

Oh, and Snowman, I know how you feel. My family hates my new Catholic views. But we’ll make it. 👍

I’m a (college-aged) convert as well, and like you trumpet am looking forward to confession. I can’t wait!

Granted, I’m still scared just thinking about it, but excited all at the same time. 😃

The next best thing from the Holy Eucharist is the Sacrament of Reconcilliation. Hearing the Absolution for the first time you’ll never forget it. It takes a lot of humility and courage to do what you are about to do. My advice, say the most embarassing and degrading sins first. Do no allow yourself to squeeze it in the middle or the end. It makes it easier. Secondly, spend time in front of the Blessed Sacrament before and after Confession.

Paris BluesMy question is said:
right, just the facts, state the sin and how many times or how often, no details, excuses or reasons are necessary or even advisable in most cases. If the priest needs more information in order to counsel you, he will ask.

Well, before I pursued Catholicism, I didn’t know there was such a thing as venial and mortal sins, really I didn’t!

Now that I’ve learned more into pride, greed, envy, etc. of the deadly sins, I feel guilty for commiting them in the past after I was baptized (which will cause me to ask do I need to confess all the sins I did since my baptism which was three years ago?). See, Catholicism REALLY makes you think more seriously about the deadly sins as well as not so bad and trying so hard NOT to commit them.

My question is, would I still need to confess them all even if I didn’t know they were deadly? It’s no excuse or anything…just want to know to be careful. I don’t want to recieve the Eucharist without confessing all the sins that need to be confessed.

Just do it and confess them, better to clean your slate so to speak and get is all behind you.

There was a great homily on confession last night on EWTN, it was one of the best I have ever heard. I wish I could share that with you Paris, because it was good stuff, except I think my wife erased it from the DVR.

Just as best you can, list out your sins, how many times and you should be ok. You don’t need to confess your friends sins or go into details, just be clear and get it all out of your system. Believe me it is worth it.

God Bless

Hey, I taped that myself!!! Since Daily Mass is played at least 4 times a day over, I decided to tape it so I could remember it!

Does a bear poop in the woods…sorry I mask my fear and saddness with humor…but ya they hate the idea. They think I am so wrong since I was raised Methodist. They fear it because they dont understand it. It stinks!
Be strong in our Lord. I too have lost my family because I became Catholic. They refuse to even visit their one and only granddaughter…my little girl who is 2 years old. It is sooo difficult…but would I rather give in to their anti-catholic biases or go to the Truth? Give me the Truth any day. Oh Lord Jesus, I will gladly sacrifice for the Truth.

Oh! I heard that homily too, it was excellent. Everyone needs a refresher course in confession every now and then…me too apparently, because I learned a couple things. :o

I saw it too. Remember he gave the example that was like 30 seconds long? That’s me. I’m in and out. After the sign of the Cross I say, “Bless me father for I have sinned, it has been X amount of time since my last confession, these are my sins: I did this, this, and this, and for these all the sins of my life I am truly sorry” then I get my penance and absolution, make my act of contrition, sign of the Cross and I’m done 👍

Confession is awesome. I had not been for many years because I was too afraid. After finally going again, it was such a relief. Now I go like every week 😃

Yes, I was so relieved when he went over it! Now I know how to make a good Confession!

Now my other question is, if we’re tempted by a certain deadly sin, we need to confess that or is it ony IF we do something with it? For example, one time I was very tempted to become jealous - like I felt that feeling creeping up in me - but I quickly tried to ignore it. How does that work with Confession?

Paris Blues:
Uh…sure it’s a great Sacrament. Um…it’s either you NEED to or not! If the Church encourages you to say why the heck you did or why it led you to do that, then you might as well say so. I mean, that doesn’t tell me anything when they say you don’t need to say the details but we encourage you to, that’s like a contradiction in a way but that’s just me.

Well, for that being the case, what do most people do?
You can be as detailed as you’d like. In fact, it may help the priest to give you spiritual council. When I feel that I need that kind of spiritual guidance, I will discuss things in detail.

However, it is not required. There are certain sins that I know exactly why I gave in to temptation, and may be embarrassing to discuss in detail. What is required is just to confess your sins in number and kind (what you did and how many times).

As far as being tempted goes, that’s not a sin.
