The conversation Mickey and I were having regarding martyrs of the Russian Revolution and the Protestant Reformation reminded me of this.

getreligion.org/?p=3756

How unspeakably vile is that?? 😦

That’s like… petitioning the Yad Vashem to declare Heinrich Himmler a Righteous Gentile…

What really disturbed me was this line:
Yet the idea of tuning Uncle Joe into Saint Joe has so far won little official backing from the Orthodox Church
Which seems to imply there is some official backing? Huh??? 🤷 Ugh… I hope the reporter was drunk or something.

It is absurd. An Onion or Lampoon, not to be taken seriously.

Don’t give it a second thought.

I hope you are right. But if you click a couple of links…it takes you to other sites…Russian sites that also have English translations of the Russian…and it seems like there is something afoot.

It brings me to mind of a thought: If you tell a lie enough times, people will begin to accept it as a truth. Its called ā€œpropagandaā€, which has been used extensively as a tool. It works with certain people… So it makes me wonder. There is no shortage of crazies in this world…

I posted the following comment:

Yes, the Romanovs have been canonized by the Patriarchate of Moscow, but note: the canonization of the Church in Exile (since reunited to Moscow) was not accepted. They were canonized as ā€œPassion-Bearersā€ (someone who accepts passive resistence rather than the sword to assert their rights). The accounts of their final years shows that Czar Nicholas refused a few opportunities to leave the country, taking the rejection of assylum by King George as a sign that the imperial family was to suffer with the Russians to pay for the sins of the ancient regime.

As for canonizing Stalin, the hailing has to be from the Faithful. Atheist communists don’t count.

This has as much relevance as Neo-Nazis who think they are also good Catholics, something I am sure Benedict XVI (whose stauch Catholic, staunch anti-nazi father had to continually move) would have something to say.

As for your odd comparison of the Bolshevik revolution and the Reformation remember: the first communist state was the Paris commune. While the Bolsheviks were taking over in Russia, they were followed in Germany(btw, the largest and most successful Marxist party before the Bolsheviks was the SDP (precursor of he DDP and DKP), the Reich’s largest party, which proclaimed the formation of what went on to be the Weimar Republic), then Bavaria (Bavarian Soviet (Raeter) Republic) Hungary (Bela Kun, put down, btw, by Orthodox Romania: the Hungarian thanked Romania by annexing territory with Nazi help), etc. During the Soviet era, Italy had the largest communist party in the West. And then there’s Cuba.

There is an Orthodox humor site called

where the glorification of Joseph Stalin was the subject of one of their lampoons.

I think this is the source of that rumor.

It’s a JOKE, though probably a tasteless one; don’t worry about it.

What a riot! I’ve heard of ROC and ROCOR before, but this is the first time I’ve heard of ROCIRWIB (Russian Orthodox Church Inside Russia Where it Belongs)!

Speaking of humor sites, I periodically refer folks to Rome Depot (usually for things like the Ultimate Thurible and the 3000 psi Heavy Duty Holy Water Pressure Sprayer).

Sometimes it gets so deep around here, we need to breathe with both lungs!

I am not Russian or Orthodox, but I know Russian language fairly well and I have not seen anything about this or heard about it from my Russian friends.

Also, visiting that ā€œName of Russiaā€ website where you can see the candidates, I must say: Anyone who would not vote for Vladimir Vysotsky is CRAZY! 😃

Ah yes, the Protestant Reformation vs. atheist Bolshevik revolution.

You mean like that old apple - toe comparison?
Hey, I wasn’t writing a @#&^ doctoral dissertation, I was brainstorming, ok? 😃
