For my parrot

What is it with me and pets, I ask you… Anyway, this is a small request when compared to the rest of this forum, but my parrot seems to keep molting even though he really should’ve stopped by now. There’s a disease that causes this, and I’m really afraid that he could have it. I don’t know enough about parrots (and neither does Google) to really know, and I don’t have the funds or the transportation to take him to a vet. Please pray that he gets better quickly, please? Aside from the fact that I love the little bugger, he was pretty dang expensive, so replacing him is unlikely for a lot of reasons. :o St. Francis, pray for us!

Praying for your birdie.

I too have parrots, have had birds for many many years now. Being in OH, maybe he isn’t getting enough light. Do you have a bird light set up for him? UV light bulbs are available especially for birds, or I bet a lizard light would help too. Your parrot’s system might be mixed up if he’s not getting enough sunlight, or the UV light from the bulbs. I have a set up I bought if of Amazon, and change the bulbs every year. Not cheap to begin with though.

Do you know that birds can see colors we can’t? It’s because they can see UV light. Those parrots that look the same to us, male and female? They look different if you can see UV light! They know who is who.and if they don’t get enough sunlight or the equivalent, their health can suffer.

Also, feed more fruit and vege than seeds. And don’t give him sunflower seed.

I don’t know what kind of parrot yours is but many parrots are prone to feather picking, especially cockatoos. Maybe what you think is molting is actually this? More attention, and lots of toys and puzzles might help. Some cockatoos pick themselves clean constantly and live a long time in health. It seems to be a nervous thing. Or boredom. Turn up the heat a little if he’s going bald.

Hawkmaid, I just discovered St. Gall is the patron saint of birds, geese, and poultry!

I’ll ask him to help your little parrot.

I sincerely hope you can get a ride to take your parrot to a vet. He may need an antibiotic for an infection. Perhaps someone at your local SPCA would take a look at him. I am keeping your parrot in prayer. St. Francis, please intercede for us. St. Gall, please intercede for us.
