I was deeply humbled today. As I escorted my disabled sister and her boyfriend for their anniversary lunch, I witnessed the most generous act of human kindness amidst despair. While my sister and her boyfriend were happily opening their cards and gifts a man who had been sitting nearby came over and politely apologised for interrupting but wanted to buy them a drink to congratulate them on their anniversary. On their behalf I declined his kind offer as they already had a drink but thanked him for his generous thoughtful intention. When we had finished eating our meals, the same man came over once again but more discreetly. He shook my hand and placed what felt like a folded piece of paper into my hand. He asked me not to say anything, then told me his wife had died 4 weeks ago due to alzheimers.I was shocked and completely taken aback!! I wanted to hug him and ‘make everything alright’…I didn’t but told him I was deeply sorry for his loss and said I would pray for him and his wife. HIs wife’s name was Mary! Then the man left. When he had gone I opened my hand to find a £5. What a thoughtful kind generous thing to do. I have been praying for this man and for his departed wife. God bless them both. Some people restore my faith in humanity, this man certainly did.My heart goes out to him.
Please join me in praying for the soul of his wife Mary and for his comfort in his deeply painful bereavement,
Thank you and God bless
Eternal rest grant unto Mary O Lord
may perpetual light shine upon her
and may she rest in peace Amen
Eternal God , in whom mercy is endless,
and the treasury of compassion inexhastible ,
look kindly upon us and increase Your mercy in us ,
that in difficult moments we might not despair
nor become despondent , but with great confidence ,
submit ourselves to Your Holy Will ,
which is love and mercy itself . Amen
Memorare (Prayer to Our Lady)
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother. To you do I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen
