For the ladies...cycle lengths and age

For me, I realized how easily puberty let me off. I went through puberty with very few mood swings, very little pain, not many surprises. Everything was always about as easy as could be expected. Then, in my 40s, those days were over. Oh, well. Good while it lasted, and I suppose this ends eventually!
Oh, and menstrual migraines are back. Had those when I was 15 or so, eventually they stopped. Now they are back worse than ever.

Hmm, after reading these posts I’m wondering if I haven’t developed PCOS too. I’ve always had trouble with cysts, but ever since the miscarriage my cycles have been unpredictable and irregular. Always changing. I also have developed significant unexplainable (I take good care of my face) acne. Also I was always thin growing up and in my 20s but now have a lot of trouble with significant weight gain even on a healthy diet. So I do have a few of the symptoms. My “male” hormones were not off balance in anyway so my former GYN said no, but the Napro Doctor thinks I might. That would explain a lot. Though it wouldn’t do anything in the way of making me feel better.

Oh I’m so sorry! 😦 That’s just awful. I hope they are able to help some with medicines, though I know they don’t work on everyone.

Some of that is also a perimenopausal symptom, though.

My last OB/GYN appointment (at 39), my doctor was pointing out to me that the acne I was experiencing was a hormonal/perimenopausal thing.

On the bright side, the acne hasn’t been as bad lately. While it was flaring up about a year ago, it was probably some of the worst acne I’ve had (or at least the most widespread).

Oh I can only hope my salvation from this nightmare has come! 😃

I’d never had migraines before. Thought I had a detached retina the first time I got one! They are another issue that increases in likelihood for those of us with female hormonal fluctuations, though. (Guys do get them, though…)

Most gynaecologists won’t have the training to properly diagnose and treat PCOS. Definitely get a referral to a reproductive endocrinologist.

Well, I wouldn’t say that was my experience in my 30s or even early 40s.

I will say it is totally my experience now that I’m probably in peri-menopause.

I had extremely clockwork cycles until about 2 years ago (I am turning 49 in a month) and then they started getting longer, and then they got super heavy (like FLOODING heavy), and now they are skipping months, like the cycle is taking 60 to 90 days, and have gotten super light.

So, honestly, it’s puberty in reverse for me. I have no idea what is coming any given day. And yes, inconsistent fertile mucus. I think I’m going to have to go to yellow stamps (Creighton) for essential sameness.

UGH!
Sounds like me, but mine started earlier.

I’ll be 50 in a couple of months and I have already had two D&Cs and just this year ended up with a hysterectomy. 😦

On the up side, no more checking of mucus or temps. 😊

Mine were a pretty constant 26-28 days for my twenties until I got married at 26. Then I was either pregnant PP or nursing for roughly 6 years. Since they have come back regularly they have gone from 24-26 days to now (at 37) they vary from 26 to 33 or occasionally even 40. they are also a lot heavier than they were before I got married.
