What does being judgmental even mean? For one person, they are simply using prudence, righteous judgment or being honest. Another person calls that judgment. I REALLY HATE WHEN PEOPLE ACCUSE SOMEONE FOR BEING A BIGOT, JUDGMENTAL, etc for DISAGREEING WITH THEM. You are going to cause them to react defensively by calling them ignorant, narrow-minded, or judgmental. You lost every battle of ever trying to get them to consider your way. Sorry I wrote in all caps. I guess the one thing I have learned from forums and I am beginning to learn in my everyday life people have VERY DIFFERENT DEFINITIONS for the same thing. What one person calls meddling/gossip, another person calls venting, another person calls it showing concern. What one person calls being peaceful, another person calls being cowardly, another person calls being avoidant. People are so into calling others right or wrong, without realizing people HONESTLY DO NOT PERCEIVE “RIGHT” & “WRONG” THE SAME WAY YOU DO. My sisters and I see things very differently, she corrects me a lot because she thinks my way of seeing something is too extreme. For me, I think she is too agreeable. Her definition of “right” and “wrong” is very similar, but different than mine. Some things I think are a big deal, she does not agree.

I guess I wonder how much of my perception of others is even true/real.

greetings,
In my opinion. Two very enlightened posts. Be well-stay safe.

Everyone has a different conscience and a different moral standard. One person’s conscience could be more delicate than the other’s. When we perceive a behavior or an incident, we unavoidably form our own perception basing on our own value. There is noting wrong to have our own opinion as long as we know our observation may not be complete and leave room for the benefit of doubt. Also, it is better to keep any “judgment” to ourselves and not pass it along to others.

As for the difference between gossip and vent, my pastor once said we could share our vent with one closed person for psychological benefit. Just not to broadcast to many and make it a gossip.

We are all called to holiness. Our conscience needs to be formed according to the Church’s teaching.
