What is a vocation? It is a call from the Lord to serve Him and His Church. Not all have the same vocation: some are teachers, others are theologians, others are priests, others are consecrated virgins, others are missionaries, and there are those who are called to be spouses and parents. Everyone, in his or her vocation, serves the Church and is united to Jesus in one way or another. And all are united to Jesus and to each other in Holy Communion.

There are some, though, who are afraid of taking up their calling, considering themselves too weak, too useless, insignificent, or too proud, too haunghy, too sinful. This is more a recognizition of one’s true self, but it can be turned into despair and stumbling if the soul is not careful against Satan. That is why one must always hope in the Lord, for so long as our hope in Him, we can always hope to overcome ourselves and achieve what God is calling us toward - even if it seems impossible. Yet nothing is impossible for God, and it is He who is calling us toward Himself - and this ought to inspire everyone to seek out their vocation and to live out their vocation.

Now, as many already know, God is the best Exemplar of man. He is Holiness itself, so no one is better than Him at being Holy. Hence, He is our Exemplar of Holiness. And no one can say, “But He is not man!” for, without rejecting His Nature, He assumed human nature, becoming man: Hence, in Jesus, God is our Exemplar of Holiness. Nor can anyone complain, “God is only our Exemplar because He made us in His Image and Likeness!” for He became man and did show us good works, prayers, and commanded us to love our enemies and showed love for His enemies.

We trust in God, but, because God is our Exemplar, it is He who trusts in us even before we trust in Him. Yes, He trust in us! It seems impossible, dose it not? “How can He? What is man that He would trust in him?” But God trusted Mary and Joseph to take care of Him when He was but an infant, entrusting Himself to their care. Certainly they were unworthy, yet He dose not care - He loved them. And so it is with us. He knows we are unworthy, but He dosen’t care: He loves us, and because He loves us, He has given us vocations and has entrusted Himself to us - for some, as an infant, and for others, as a parent, and for others, a poor man or woman, for in assuming humanity, He has joined Himself to every soul, and so, every soul is Jesus in disguise, most especially those who resemble Him in His poverty, His mercy, His desire for righteousness, His peacefulness, etc. - trusting in us to freely do good (by His grace, of course).

Every relationship requres trust between the spouses, and we must trust in Jesus just as He trusts in us, for our souls belong to Him in light of baptism. We are spiritually married to the Lord.

We must trust in Him and entrust ourselves to Him, and ask Him to give us more hope everyday. He has already gone before us - what need we to fear?

Loneliness? Yet we have God and we have the angels and saints.
Suffering? Yet all suffering is a share in the hour of glory of Jesus and we must glory in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Death? Yet God will not allow us to die before we achieve our vocation.
Terrible work? Yet with God, anything is possible. Look to the saints: they were terrible sinners, yet became such holy people.
Satan? Yet we encounter him everyday in temptation and despair.
Responsibility? Yet we are all responsible for something.
Sacrifice? Yet all work is sweet when joined to Jesus Christ.
Humility? Yet the humble are exalted, and the exalted are humbled.
Darkness? Yet Jesus is the Light, and we must trust in Him.
The vocation itself? Yet God calls us to what is benefical for us, and He will make it so our souls will profit greatly from the call - if we only serve Him faithfully.
