There are these two links, the first from the Catholic News Service which covers films from 2011 to the present, if you use the search function you’ll be able to see most major releases of the last few years.

This second one is from the Unites States Conference of Catholic Bishops. It covers a variety of films from the 30s through early 2011 Though some pages are dead ends (such as a curious majority of them from 1997, 1998, and 1999), most of the individual alphabetical entries work and display what you need to know.

And remember the ratings:

A-I : For everyone
A-II: Teens and Up
A-III: Adults
L/A-IV: Adults Strongly Cautioned
O: Condemned (Although admittedly, I do think there are some L/A-IVs that probably deserved this rating)

When I was growing up, our diocesan newspaper carried a listing of new movies and the Catholic ratings. That was the only rating my father cared about. I was not allowed to see a lot of movies my friends did.

But I totally get why he did it. I was pretty strict with my own kids. Just because it was PG didn’t mean anything to me if I read something online about the movie I found “offensive.”

The 🍎 did not fall far from the 🌳.

I grew up with many horror movies so I’m used to being told I’m crazy for watching them. They don’t make horror movies like they used to do but I appreciate old school style. It’s not easy to create unique movie in the era of countless reboots & sequels.

Slightly off topic but Bishop Robert Barron writes a film review every now and then. I trust his judgment 😉

O does not mean “condemned”, it means “morally offensive”.

“Morally offensive” does not mean you may not see it – It means if you see it, expect your sense of morality to be offended (and if you do not find it so, perhaps you should investigate that)

This is a great help - thank you! I have bookmarked the websites.

Had no idea that such Catholic review websites existed. Have seen ones here and there that are apparently written by Catholics but nothing necessarily authoritative.

This is one area that requires coverage. In a Humanism-pushed West, films can be difficult to decide over, with the lines between offensive and artistic-license, often getting blurred.

Yeah it helps in knowing which films to avoid and which could be acceptable.
