Forgetting something in Confession

When I last went to Confession, I had fergotten to confess something so I dashed back to the confessional next time it was open and said basically,“Oh Sorry Father I fergot some sins in my confession a few minities ago and these are those sins…”, What would have been the proper way to do that? If you genuinely forget something in confession it’s forgiven anyway. You should mention it in your next confession but you really don’t need to go back into the confessional as you did. However, what you did was fine.

I heard third-hand that Pope John Paul II often came out of the Confessional, stopped, then excused himself to go back in for something he forgot to mention.
