Dominus vobiscum.

I require your advice.

I have a relative, who staunchly refuses to forgive the ex-spouse for leaving and the subsequent divorce.

While I have prayed for both of them, I would like to convince them to forgive each other. One stated that “I will never forgive…until the other asks for it and makes restitution…”

I ask for some words, examples and short stories or simple advice to share with them.

Dominus vobiscum.

There are different kinds of forgiveness which it may not necessarily be right to expect and different kinds of vocabulary and usages of words.

Then again there is whose the affair is anyway - theirs.

It’s not for us to try to enforce a lovey-dovey image on everything.

Live with their pain - and yours.

I concur with the above respondents. It would be difficult even for someone who knows the people involved, someone who is intimately familiar with their personalities and the history of their marriage, to offer some words of instruction or advice that would begin to reconcile them with each other. I wouldn’t know where to begin, except to pray and to show love and mercy by example.

We must forgive. It takes time. If you can impress upon them the continuing damage done to themselves maybe they can start the process.
