Let’s just say someone was at the Easter Vigil last night, several were baptized and they were not anointed after the Baptism. It was not intentional, it was a mistake, but it happened.

What ought the parent of one of these children do?

Call the parish Tuesday. The child could be anointed later.

I gather none of them were confirmed?

She means children who were not anointed with the Sacred Chrism.

Yes, I know. That’s why I assume that those children weren’t subsequently confirmed as part of the Easter Vigil Liturgy. Because if they’re going to be confirmed they don’t get anointed with Chrism after Baptism.

It doesn’t affect the validity, and they will be Chrismated at their Confirmation (I am assuming they were young and so will be confirmed as a middle-high schooler), so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Are you talking about the oil of the Catechumens? If so, our parish did that minor exorcism and annointing before vigil not during. Might that be the case here as well?

The parent. can call the parish, the child can be anointed even now.

But have them call tomorrow - Easter Monday most parishes are closed - we are exhausted from the “Super Bowl” that is the Sacred Triduum.

Bask in the Easter graces,

My parish priest celebrated two Masses today and I hope and pray he will have three good retreat days this week.

They could speak to the priest.

It’s not essential for the validity. So, the most important thing is those children were baptised.

If their parents would like them anointed they could talk to the priest. I don’t recall its correct name but there is a rite in the Ritual for the various ceremonies of baptism to be supplied in the parish church if let’s say an infant was baptised in hospital in an emergency. The priest could use part of that rite to anoint them if that’s what they want.
