Forgot to Mention Sin

I know there are a lot of topics like this, but I couldn;t find one that matched me exactly.

While I was confessing, I remembered that there were two sins I forgot to put on my list. I remembered to mention the one, but I couldn’t think of what the other one was right away. I felt pressured to hurry up because i had already said a lot of sins so I didn’t take extra time to try and remember it. Also, I’m pretty sure it was a venial sin that I forgot to say. I would have said it if I remembered, I just didn’t take the extra time to think of it.

My mom and confessor have said that they think I’m scrupulous so that doesn’t really make it any easier for me to figure out if this is a sin or not.

Any help is appreciated!

I have been taught to prepare myself before going to confession in prayer and a sincere examination of myself. My strategy is to tell my heavy sins first, because those heavy sins are the cause of the lighter ones. Most sins come from pride, sloth and greed. I often have to mention them in confession, because they are the root of my fault. I have also been instructed by a priest to mention examples of myself being proud, but I didn’t always remember every detail. Jesus knows my heart.
When I was relieved after confession, it was the sign of a good confession. When I wasn’t relieved it meant that I didn’t forgive myself, but God forgave my sin. The greatest sin of all is not to forgive yourself although the priest gave his absolution. That would be the rejection of God’s mercy.

What’s the question? This is just the background. If you work out what the question is, and put it into words, then I suspect that you can answer it yourself. 🙂

Two points here.
  1. It is definitely better to spend time in spiritual reflection before going to confession, so that you can remember your sins and address them properly when the time comes.
  2. However, if you merely forgot a sin while you were in the confessional, that doesn’t mean it’s not forgiven. You are forgiven of all of your sins absolutely, as long as you confessed all the ones that you remembered.
 
You have no obligation to even mention venial sins in confession. All you must do is list all of your mortal sin in number and kind that you can remember.

When you are receive absolution, you are forgiven of all of the sins you are repentant for provided you did not knowing leave out a mortal sin.

Also know that when ever you worthily receive Holy Communion, you are also forgiven of any venial sins you are repentant for.

So, in the case you mention here, you did absolutely nothing wrong.

Yes, although if you -intended- to take very little time in spiritual reflection, as opposed to it being an accident, I would imagine that wouldn’t be a good thing.

You don’t -accidentally- commit a serious sin, however, and if you -accidentally- fail to confess one, you’re still forgiven of it. God recognizes your intention to confess all your sins, and forgives you based on that.

If your confessor says your scrupulous, you shouldn’t be here asking us these questions. You need to speak to your confessor about these issues and determine how to remedy your scrupulosity.
 
In terms of mortal sin. One is to mention it in the next confession.

Venial sins need not be confessed --so one need not bring up what is venial if one forgets it.

In terms of scrupulosity – be sure to have the direction in general of a regular confessor.
