I’ve been away for some time. I was Chiltepin on the old forums, stopped posting, and the email address attached to that account died. I’m not worried about that. I like my new identity just fine, but I have culture questions:
  1. I see people say they ran out of likes. Is that a thing that can happen?
  2. Did something happen that resulted in so many fruitcake profile pictures? Is it coincidence? Or just a common interest here?
  3. What’s the deal with curmudgeons?

First of all welcome back. I am just a fellow poster.
Likes—- I’ve seen that mentioned. Not permanent, for a day
The fruitcake—- seemed to be a running joke between some members.
curmudgeons—- no clue

Again, welcome and enjoy!

Hi DisorientingSneeze,

Welcome back! 🙂

I’m going to move your post over to the Casual Discussion Forum.

The Site Feedback Forum is usually reserved for forum technical issues and problems of that nature.

As members of the forum, we all get to use so many “Likes” throughout a 24 hour period of time. Once those Likes are used up, we then have to wait until more are available for us to use again.

As MTatum said, the fruitcake avatars are a joke among some of the members.

I post on the Curmudgeons threads, so I can tell you a bit about those, too.

They are all in good fun. Anyone can jump on in and post in them. They’re meant to be satire, and sarcastic. We poke fun at ourselves, not taking anything seriously, although we can be serious and share serious issues on there.

We’ll post something ironic or sarcastic for example, and then post an angry smiley after it, like this: 😡 😠

A curmudgeon is someone who is rather irritable about life most of the time, and who complains about most situations and people in life.

If you read any of the posts in the Curmudgeons threads, I think that you’ll find them to be quite humorous. The members who post in them all have a really fun sense of humor, I think. 😉

The curmudgeons have always been here. It used to be that casual was divided into the water cooler (silly casual) and the back fence (serious casual) so maybe you didn’t see their threads in the past

Yes, to this.

Also, different members popped in and out of the threads, too.

That’s what also makes it so much fun, in my opinion. You never quite know who will show up and start posting in the threads. The more, the merrier, and we end up having some really fun/funny posts, too. 😀

Sounds like it is worth the time to catch up/ figure out curmudgeons. 🤔😃

I see people say they ran out of likes.
I think the number is 50 likes per day, and it’s counted not within a calendar day, but rather within a rolling 24-hour period, i.e., from 24 hours ago, up to the present moment. Just wait and you’ll have more likes to give.

The number of likes you can use depends on your ‘trust level’ on the forums. You gain trust by using the forums normally for a while and not running into any trouble
