I managed to flick through some pictures in facebook, the fb belongs to a photographer and there are pictures of the priest I know- pursing his lips and there is a female acquaintance in front of him, he’s wearing his casual clothes so i almost didn’t suspect it was the priest.

Is this odd or suspicious? It’s not very priestly behaviour to be acting silly or what not.

He may appear to be pursing his lips because he was talking when the photo was taken …if you are on friendly terms with the priest you could print the photo out and show it to him and say " hey father i saw this funny photo of you on facebook " and see how he reacts or what he says…ws he pursing his lips at the lady in the photo?

“Stop judging by appearances, but judge justly.” - John 7:24

From the CCC 2478:
To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way…
Suppose he was kissing. There are several ways to interpret that in a favorable way.

No, it was a pose of sorts, he has a silly nature about him, just generally. Still, it’s not very priestly to be messing about.

It wasn’t talking pursing, it was like what teenage girls do. He is mildly camp.

I’ve come to appreciate the different personalities of priests.
Mary.

Our Pope took a selfie. A priest can act a bit silly now and then if he is not doing spiritual work; we had a priest who did cartwheels once and he brought so much joy to the children at our school.

Poor man, I hope he often doesn’t meet with judgements either that he is camp or that he shouldn’t be silly sometimes.
Priests grow up in families. They are normal human beings who give up certain human rights, but not their humanity. They can live 80, 90 years, and not allowed ever to be silly? :bigyikes:
If he has not ‘friended’ you, and it disturbs you, leave his Facebook page alone, or, rather than judging behind his back, if you really think it’s your business to do so, let him know that you don’t think he should post what you consider compromising photos. At least it not be criticizing him behind his back.

From the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

477 Respect for the reputation of persons forbids every attitude and word likely to cause them unjust injury.278 He becomes guilty:
  • of rash judgment who, even tacitly, assumes as true, without sufficient foundation, the moral fault of a neighbor;
  • of detraction who, without objectively valid reason, discloses another’s faults and failings to persons who did not know them;279
  • of calumny who, by remarks contrary to the truth, harms the reputation of others and gives occasion for false judgments concerning them.
2478 To avoid rash judgment, everyone should be careful to interpret insofar as possible his neighbor’s thoughts, words, and deeds in a favorable way:
Code:
Every good Christian ought to be more ready to give a favorable interpretation to another's statement than to condemn it. But if he cannot do so, let him ask how the other understands it. And if the latter understands it badly, let the former correct him with love. If that does not suffice, let the Christian try all suitable ways to bring the other to a correct interpretation so that he may be saved.280 "
God bless you 🙂

I think rather than examining the photo, you might consider examining your own reaction to seeing the photo.

I’m not trying to be snide or negative in any way at all. I just find your quoted post here to be rather alarming. It seems to imply that you feel priests should be devoid of any personailty other than “priestly.” I don’t think that’s a fair, or even reasonable, stance to take.

The picture could have been taken before he was a priest. I know a lot of my friends do that as a joke

I am a tad uncomfortable slamming a priest (even one that I don’t know personally) based on a description only. Maybe it’s just me. :o

In any case, even if we ever *do *have uncomfortable thoughts about anyone whose moral welfare is not our personal responsibility (unlike our young children for instance, what we owe is loving prayer to God for them.
Happy to join in prayer for this priest, as the best thing to come out of mention of anyone, is that we pray for them where we cannot also do more practical good to them.

A priest isn’t Jesus, they are human beings but they are given too much reverence when they are also silly undermines the reverence that catholics are trained to give to priests.

How do you know that he was being silly? We haven’t seen the photo. Am I missing something?:o

Honestly, don’t worry about it. It’s really not your business. Assume the best in others. You can’t worry about the sins of others but only the sins of yourself. I say this not with a negative tone but as someone who also is tempted to judge others. My best advice is, when faced with the temptation to think negatively about this priest or judge him just start telling yourself how awesome he is and be thankful for who he is. If we did this towards all those we are tempted to judge we will find more peace in our lives and in our relationships.

…I’ll admit, I’m even tempted to judge you for judging this priest! aahh! The insanity! lol

Well, I love you. Isn’t it great how God loves us?

Stop speculating. Your posts are coming across as if you think there’s something sinister in the picture. always think the best of people. In the end, it’s really none of your business.
