I coordinate 1st Holy Communion programming for the children of our parish and we have made it a point to reeducate the parents as the children are going through the program. We hold parent meetings that we very strongly encourage one parent from each family to attend. The meetings are actually classes. There are parents out there that were taught correctly (or remember what they were taught), but many have no idea.
I am of this generation of parents and I know how poorly I was taught. My memories of the sacraments were one of fear and loathing. I make it a point to show the children the Church is a warm and loving place. Perhaps this next generation of Catholics will embrace the Church more.
