Four Justice, IL, Dominicans make final vows

Justice was the last of the full habit headgear to go. They have maintained the regular Dominican habit, though.

At my elementary school, Sr. Gloria wore that version. This was in the 80’s and 90’s. It was an odd time. Some of the sisters were not in habits at all, some were in the short Dominican habits, and there was Sr. Gloria in her traditional habit.

Are those sisters in the photo from Justice? I see one on the back row whose headgear doesn’t match the others.

I think St Mary Jean Dorcy, OP, wrote a poem about Dominican Sisters’ veils. Dan Paulos included it in his book Behold the Women. Actually, quite funny.

Had a few more minutes to research. The others with the all black veils might be Dominican Sisters of St. Catherine of Siena in Racine. That might explain why the one Springfield or Justice sister is there. They aren’t that far from each other.
