This is a sneaky little article. The first paragraph contains the sentence “If you believe abortion to be murder in all cases, stop reading now.” Interestingly, Mr. Frost is supposedly making a pro-life argument FOR the Morning After Pill. I sent this in response to him:

Mr. Frost,

I’m one of those people that you told to stop reading, but I didn’t. I believe abortion to be murder in all cases. At first glance, you seem to feel the same, but I am quite glad I kept reading. Now I know not to defend your stance to others. It is sad that you believe the MAP to be an alternative to abortion. The 72 hours statistic is quite misleading, just as the assertion that the birth control pill suppresses ovulation is misleading. If a woman has sex while she is ovulating, conception can occur within 72 hours. The makers of the MAP know this, so they (and birth control pill makers) design their “medication” with a “backup feature” that makes the lining of the uterus unfavorable to the implantation of a fertilized egg, which causes an abortion of the earliest variety. This is actually a big part of the reason that the Catholic Church is against both the birth control pill and the MAP. Even Planned Parenthood and most doctors understand and admit that the Pill, even with perfect use, does not completely stop ovulation. The MAP is the same way. You are putting forth misinformation, which is unfortunate if done unintentionally. Please research this further. You can check websites like the Vatican’s and www.ccli.org for information on these chemical “contraceptives” and natural alternatives.

Also, aside from the abortifacient nature of the MAP, it has also been linked to at least one death of an otherwise healthy girl of 18. The delay by the FDA may not only by for the moral reasons that you suggest.

Thank you for your time.

There is a link to send the author an email, and foxviews is cc’d. Just thought you guys might like to chime in.

Good for you. I can’t believe that 37% of the women having abortions are Catholic. I wonder where he got those numbers from, and if they are accurate then I am so sad over this. I guess they must have been attending the same church as John Kerry.

I heard Jerry Usher make a great analogy on abortion in last week’s CA Live. He said if 4 people were in the woods hunting, and at the moment only 3 of you were visible; you hear a stirring in the brushes, do you fire your gun “in case” it’s a deer, without regard to the fact it might be your friend? Do you conclude “it’s probably not my friend, so I can fire”? Or does the need to “bag” a deer override the risk that you might be killing a human?

Of course not - the priorities are 180 degrees wrong. Science offers some compelling facts, through brain waves etc., that a unique human blueprint exists inside a conceived child at the earliest possible stages. But even if you are someone who live sin the gray area that it “may” not be human, why would you take the chance and murder someone?

This was a great analogy to me. Thanks Jerry!

Actually, they’re probably desperate and feel there is nowhere else to turn. I’ve known Catholic women who have had abortions, and usually they didn’t think it was right when they did it, but they just couldn’t see a way out of their situation. That’s why crisis pregnancy centers are so very important.

I had a friend who was going to college on an athletic scholarship. She became pregnant, and remembered always being told by her parents that if she became pregnant, she and the baby were on their own. She didn’t understand that she could use a medical redshirt to preserve her scholarship, and knew that she couldn’t afford to raise the baby on her own or afford medical treatment to have a healthy baby. So she had an abortion. It is one of the biggest regrets of her life, but she never subscribed to the kind of church teaching espoused by the distinguished John Kerry.

Too many of those Catholic women who use abortifacient contraceptives and/or who have had an abortion, then feel they must justify having done so. Having become cafetaria Catholics in one aspect of the Faith, it spills over into other areas.

One of these women came to me for post-abortion counselling. She was young, pretty and a teacher in a Catholic High School. She told me that although she needed my help, she didn’t believe abortion was wrong, it just wasn’t right for her.

Then she tried to justify contraception, pre-marital sex, another sexual practice, etc… In the end what she wanted was a magic pill to make the pain go away without having to admit what she had done was a sin.

I feel sick at heart thinking of the influence and advice girls at that school will receive from that teacher.

Yes people like that usually go on to try to convince everyone else that what they’re doing is okay, that they don’t have to be *burdened" by guilt. And it’s all basically about justifying what they did themselves.

I too am shocked by this number…but I wonder if that statistic is talking about Catholics as we think of them. I know many, many people who would fill out a form and check the box “Catholic” under Religion but haven’t stepped foot inside a church in years. Many of them were “raised Catholic” by which they mean their parents dropped them off at CCD and church on Sunday. Once they were confirmed, they never went back. But these people will still refer to themselves as *Catholic. *So, that 37% may be those who were baptized Catholic but not true Catholics in faith and convictions.
