Does anyone know who Fr. Albert Gorayeb is? Years ago, I picked up a cassette tape in a give away basket at our Church. The tape has the following handwritten title “IN HIS NAME, FR ALBERT JOHN GORAYEB” I haven’t listened to it in quite a few years but as I recall the priest on the tape gives a wonderful talk about the Jesus Prayer. And at the end of his talk, he sings in chant the “Jesus Prayer”. It is beautiful despite the not so good quality of the tape. I’m wondering if I should attempt to get this cassette tape transferred to a CD disc.

Have a look here.

Now, I’m not so sure. I also read that “Al Gorayeb” is also associated with New Age Music listed as ’ Celestial Meditative Music’ (Albert Gorayeb**. **I also read some claims of clergy sexual abuse.

As I recall, the Jesus Prayer chant had men singing “ohmmmmm” in the background. His singing was beautiful. I just wish someone on this board knew him or knew of him and could comment.

Please allow me to reactivate this thread. I am also interested in knowing more about this Fr. Gorayeb. Anyone who knows anything about him would be really kind to tell us a few words about him. I understand that he was accused of molesting children after his death and that the Melkite Church had to settle out of court in 2006. I was so sorry to learn this today as I have listened to these tapes as well and been so edified by them. I know he was well-loved by many as well. Learning more about him may help rescue what was good about this man and what he offered through his talks and chants.

Father Albert Gorayeb, was pastor of St. Ann Melkite Church in West Paterson NJ (Now Woodland Park). He passed away on July 27, 1987. He resigned as Pastor around 1980 and worked in media ministry until he became ill and died. He was a very talented man in may ways and was instrumental in the construction of the beautiful Byzantine Melkite church in New Jersey.

This is a very belated thank you for the information on the Father Albert Gorayeb. Another thing that I learned about him was that in 1972 he commissioned the icon “Our Lady of America”. He dedicated the icon of Our Lady to bless the American people, hence the title “Our Lady of America” This image is also known as “Tender Mercy”
