…in praying for possessed or otherwise victimized by evil practices–so how do you know when a leader of such a Catholic charismatic group is a solid Catholic? The same might go for traditionalist religious orders except those practicing under the indult ones are listed if you know where to find them.

Thanks!

Amorth cites “the Renewal Groups.” I don’t know what they are, but that’s what he says in *An Exorcist Tells His Story." *He also mentions that in learning his trade he had to consult with Protestants (?Pentecostals, if memory serves) because Catholics have lost touch with the ministry of deliverance/exorcism.

You know they’re a solid Catholic when they try to go to daily mass, pray the rosary, go to confession often, and support the teaching magistirium of the church.

…Same as anyone else.

** The rosary is a particular devotion that is approved by the church. A person can be a faithful, solid Catholic without an affinity for this particular devotion. You know a person to be good by his fruits:**
Matthew Chapter 7:
13Enter ye in at the narrow gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way that leadeth to destruction, and many there are who go in thereat.

14How narrow is the gate, and strait is the way that leadeth to life: and few there are that find it!

15Beware of false prophets, who come to you in the clothing of sheep, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16By their fruits you shall know them. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit, and the evil tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can an evil tree bring forth good fruit.

19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit, shall be cut down, and shall be cast into the fire.

20Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them.

What’s a renewal group as opposed to charismatic Catholic groups? Is the Family Life Center a renewal group?

Of course they can. The Rosary is the most loved and most practiced devotion in the Church; but it is in no way required, and anyone who suggests that isn’t in tune with what the church teaches.

What is starting to catch on is not a devotion, but the other official Liturgy of the church - the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Breviary and other names. It can be as simple as reciting one of the Hours - Morning Prayer (Lauds), or Evening Prayer (Vespers) or Night Prayer (Compline), or it can be more complex. There is even a booklet produced about monthly that has only part of those - the Magnificat, for those who are intimidated by even the book Shorter Christian Prayer.
